Just bought my nephews a Blackfoot, since I had one when I was younger
(am 30 now). I can't figure out what kind of motor to get them! Is
there a guide to motors somewhere? There used to be 240's, 360's, 480's
(based on how many seconds of run time), but now everthing is 18T, 12x2
BB, and I have no clue what is what! Can someone give me some advice?
Thanks! Andy

Get a cheep "Stock" setup.  ESC should run $50 and the motor should be a
cheep $20 27-turn motor, or a traxxas 20-turn stinger.  These motors
won't die too quickly, and will impress your son until he grows into a
more powerful setup.  Beware, though.  If he gets addicted to the hobby,
there will be no end of accessory and maintenence purchases.  There's a
heck of a lot more options these days.  I personally bought a Traxxas
Stampede, which came with motor and speed controller, and it's plenty
fast enough for goofing around.  The Stinger is designed to last a while
before performance fades, and is easy to change out when it gets worn
out.  Even though I prefer Traxxas for bashing, I beleive Tamiya still
makes the good old standard 540 motor that is designed for reliability.

Most 1/10th scale models are running the 540-sized motors.
