Hi, Ive got a couple questions as Im looking into getting a RC. Ive
always wanted one since my buddy got a FROG back in jr. high. Anyways I
went to my local hobby shop for a look around and they really werent
too helpful unfortunately. A couple questions.
1) Any reccomendations on where to start. Im not going to buy cheap but
Im sure I dont want the most expensive kit there is. This probably wont
become a full time hobby, but Im willing to invest the time ect to take
a couple steps up the ladder. I want to run a car more than I work on
it :).
2) Are there any good internet dealers where the stuff is cheaper?
3) Any cars that can run on a beach, or maybe they all can?
Thanks Im sure Ive got more questions but if you can give me some leads
here I would appreciate it!
Your points in order:
1. If you want to run more than you wrench, then my experience is to run
electric. Or it you go nitro, then go for a 2wd 1/10 scale Stadium Truck, I
have owned road cars, 1/8th nitro buggies, nitro Monsters (Savage and T
Maxx) and my Nitro Rustler is by far the lowest maintenance car of the lot.
I expect most other 2wd 1/10th Stadiums would be similar. For simply mucking
about, you can't go wrong with them - Associated RC10GT, Losi XXX-NT, Nitro
Rustler, XTM X-Celerator (I think) and on goes the list. Any of them would
probably be fine. If there is *any* chance of you racing I think anything
other than the Associated or Losi would be a step in the wrong direction.
2. Do your own research, it won't take long. I use Tower, but that's just
me.
3. Any off road car will run on the beach. Be prepared for extra maintenance
as the sand chews through outdrives, bearinings, bushings and whatever else.

I concur on electric first. I hate seeing people buy nitro for their
first vehicle then quitting the hobby because of the tuning. Get
electric, learn to fix them, rebuild diffs, set up radios etc. Want
nitro later, go for it.
Not sure where your from and that will have a bearing on what you can
get.
My nephew has a Traxxas Stampede and Traxxas Rustler and both have
proven to be bricks. Even playing at the skate park has failed to
break anything. They can be hopped up, check out the web for lots of
hopped up Rustlers and Stampedes. Down side is they handle like bricks
compared to my T4.
