There's nothing wrong with saddle packs. There's just too many people
not willing to solder their own packs together. Ok, maybe there IS a
microscopic voltage drop accross the 2 inch wire connecting the sides,
and maybe its just a TAD harder to buckle down a saddle pack, but the
real reason is that people want to buy their stick packs and not worry
about reconfiguring them to saddle. Almost every electric 1/10 scale
uses a stick pack on one side or in the center these days.

At a 4wd buggy race your most likely to see XXX4s, BJ4s and SB Sports
and none of them use saddle packs. Unless the Kyosho buggy is head and
shoulders better then the other buggies in its class because of the
saddles I don't see how they can justify going against the norm.
If all I had was the Kyosho buggy it would not be that bad. Like most
4wd buggy racers I also have a 2wd vehicle, in my case a RC10T4. I use
the same batteries for both my T4 and XXX4 and my nephews T4 and
Rustler (slightly modified to use race packs). Yes, you can shove a
saddle pack in the T4 by folding it right but why should I? Like I
said before, none of the other companies make you mess with saddle
packs. How come Kyosho could not overcome that "design problem"?
I don't use stick packs, I don't think most racers do. My batteries
are 6 cells laying parallel and connected by battery bars, I call them
"race packs" but am not sure if they have a better name. Stick packs
have too much resistance and can't be placed on a discharge tray. I
often build my own packs so the soldering is not why I am against
saddles, thought I am sure it is a reason other would be.
Now if your of the opinion the new Kyosho buggy is not for racing but
for bashing and my answers do not apply, then it is an even worse idea
since most bashers do use stick packs.

ok-- I agree with you-- just surprised to see them going to sticks
again...
what's a BJ4 or SB Sport? ;)

J Concepts makes the BJ4. It is based on the Associated TC3 but
heavily modified. I have heard a lot of good things and the ones I
have seen in real life have been impressive. The SB Sport is made by
Academy. It is the cheapest of the 4wds and has had some successful
races, but I have heard they had some problems with parts breaking, not
sure if it's any better now. I heard an SB Pro is coming, it might
even be out now. It will be a SB Sport with upgrades. There is also
an TC3O kit that lets you convert your TC3 into an off-road buggy. I
have never checked one out for real or talked to anyone that has and
have only read a little on the web about them. Yokomo makes a 4wd
buggy but again, I have never seen one.
4wd Buggy is my favorite class. My LHS has all the parts I need for my
XXX4 on the wall so that is what I race. I am an old Associated fan so
my Losi XXX4 was painted red with "TRAITOR" painted in white on the
sides.

4WD buggy was always my favorite class, too-- and that's why I got out
of the hobby for a bit <well, besides work>- it was dead as a class.
Driving home after work last night, I saw the track I'd been meaning to
run on has gone out of business. Damnit...
