Hello fellow Savage owners!

<disclaimer> This was NOT my idea and I take no credit for it. I'm just
passing on firsthand experience with this mod.

Every Savage driver knows that the tank leans itself as it gets lower on
fuel, running dangerously lean at 1/8 tank and less. On a given tune, my
truck would run fat and sloppy @ 210F for the first 1/4 tank, 250F and
perfect for the next 1/2 tank, then 280F and too lean for the last 1/4 tank.
There was no happy medium I could find.

The uniflow mod costs $5.00, takes 10 minutes to install and has eliminated
my problems. My truck now has FULL power from full to empty without any
leaning issues whatsoever and was running a constant 250F-260F all day,
refueling on the fly without stopping the motor. It also has about 15% more
bottom-end oomph and is an even better wheelie machine than it was before.

I thought this was only a problem with the primer fuel tanks? Mine doesn't
do this?

Ah the dual tank thing. I have a primer bulb stolen from an MGT, and this
does the same thing i suspect on a smaller scale, as there is always a
little full bubble of fuel for it to get all it needs :)

Nope, this problem is with all Savage fuel tanks. It's worse with the
primer tank, but still pretty pronounced with the 160cc tank on the RTR's.
I have read that some experience this problem much worse than others, you
might be one of the lucky ones! Mine was absolutely brutal till I applied
this mod. Ran it really hard yesterday for 5 tanks after retuning and it
kept a constant tune and temp through the whole tank.

Yeah, I've heard of several guys using primer bulbs or huge fuel filters to
act as a reservoir between the tank and motor; kinda like a baby header tank
of sorts.

Sweet! I'm thinking about building a couple ramps today and start launching
her. I've had it 4' off the ground so far, but looking for more height!

I have just downloaded and saved all those pics and info :) Thanks for the
headsup!

I also have 2 weak spots in my drivetrain and they are 2 plastic gears
(shock horror!!!). Anyway, I'm about to go look for metal replacements when
I get a minute. Does anyone recommend one brand over another in this case?
(and no I wont consider leaving plastic gears in there :)

Replying to myself :)

I've done more reading etc on this topic and a common thing I've been
reading is people fitting header tanks and/or using an Ofna tank. Who makes
these header tanks and which model is the Ofna tank from?? I cant seem to
find that anywhere...

I'm also now a member of Savage Central so expect some pics of my beast when
its done :)

I have one plastic gear in my entire drivetrain, and that is the spur gear
(which I melted yesterday!). The way I look at it, SOMETHING has got to
give in a drivetrain, and I'd rather cook a $3.00 plastic spur gear than a
more expensive tranny or differential gear. I keep a couple extras in my
pit box so if I cook one (this is the first I've nuked) I'm only down for
about 30 mins.

Howdy, what did you use to replace the one plastic gear in the gearbox??

Yeah I know, I'll keep the plastic one as a spare spare spare, but I still
want to go full metal. I love being able to brag about how I managed to
blow a diff to pieces rather than simply saying, yeah, she stripped that
plastic gear :)

Plus it gives me some nice mangled bits of metal I can put on my monitor for
show, LOL!

I'll stick with the Steel Spur..just don't over wrench the slipper!
The factory plastic do still seem too soft..seen many go already via friends
truck..
I think I would atleast get a Delrin gear if I was plastic happy.. =)

Yeah my T-Maxx has had a Robinson racing steel spur ever since the plastic
one in my mates t-maxx stripped, then took him 2 months to get a
replacement!!! (one of the problems living in Australia and getting trucks
like these when they very first came out). That steel spur has never ever
given me greif.

What brand gear did you use in your Savage?

Robinson steel spur and steel bell 49/16...make sure you get the bell..the
spur will eat up the factory bell.
