What do they pay for rent, utilities, insurance, taxes, equipment,
upkeep, and someone to run the races?
Divide that number by the amount of racers paying fees.
My guess is the track owners are in the negative money wise.
Nice track in those pics.
Race sounds fine, practice sounds a bit high. Practice nights are only
3 hours long so $5 is a tad high IMHO. If you think your going to
practice every week and don't want to spend the $20-25 a month you
might see if they have other options like getting a discount for buying
a month at a time.
There are three tracks within 1.5 hours of me and one charges $3 to
practice and is open 6 hours a day on practice days, the other is free
but accepts donations, the last one has a yearly membership of $35
individual, $50 family and that covers all practice and races.

these tracks aren't run by paid employees are they?

One of them is, yes, the $3 track.
If it's the only place in the area and you want to race then by all
means, support the track. I said it was a "tad" high I simply because
it is more then any of the tracks I frequent, it is not outrageous by
any means and is only $2 more then my home track.
It does look like a decent facility. Since it's outside I wonder if
they practice on Thurs if Weds is rained out?

They told me practices were wednesdays from 5 pm until dark.
