Would the Traxxas Jato be a good choice?

Where or what kind of place would you be running the vehicle?

Dirt lot, or parking lot, or a track?

Dirt track and pavement parking lots.

Depends on what you intend to do with it.  The Jato is a stadium truck and
will rock on dirt and asphault, but will bog down slightly in grass due to
the low ground clearance and smallblock (High HP, low torque) motor.  In my
experience, smallblocks (.16 and less) just don't have the torque for
serious off-roading and overheat pretty badly when you put the finger to the
throttle trigger.

So, if you'll be running on relatively flat ground with a
dirt/gravel/asphault composition, the Jato is a good chioce.  Also consider
the HPI Rush Evo (2WD), the HPI MT2 (4WD) and the HPI MT2 18SS kit as
alternatives (I'm biassed towards HPI stuff, can ya tell?).  Of course, the
Savage is the way to go IMHO......................the power and speed of the
25 RTR out of the box is just incredible and requires very few mods to make
it race worthy.

I'll agree.

And it takes a ton of abuse to actually break it, and then it's simple
to fix, and parts are usually plentiful.

I can't believe the beating mine has taken without actually breaking
anything.  You're right, parts are plentiful at the LHS and E-Bay (REALLY
cheap on E-Bay).

So HPI is a better brand than Traxxas right?

Depending on who you ask.  In my opinion, HPI makes a better overall vehicle
than Traxxas.  I also love Chevy 1:1 trucks and despise Fords.  You'll meet
many Ford truck guys who hate Chevy's and love Traxxas RC's.  ;-)  It's all
a matter of what suits you and what you like.

If you're looking at a competition between the T-Maxx and Savage, the Savage
wins hands down no matter how you look at it.  If you're comparing the HPI
MT2 to the Jato it would be more of a toss-up.

No. Just different.

You'd enjoy either company's products.

I got the Jato a month ago.  It is my first nitro RC and I couldn't b
more pleased.  The EZ start system sold me not to mention to speed.
WOW :D
However finding replacement parts and hop ups is a problem, but not fo
long I would think
