Im not sure what people mean when they talk about connectors but this is
what I've found looking on the web.  Is this what people mean?

yes installing dean's plugs is a good idea.

Deans Ultra connector are much more efficient than the white plugs that
come stock on Traxxas vehicle.  They are definately worth it.
