I just ordered from Tower Hobbies site.

Front and Rear RPM Bearing Carriers
RPM Wide Front Bumper
Traxxas Ball Bearings 5x11x4mm
DuraTrax Power Shot Motor Cleaner (To clean the bearings)
Trinity Royal Oil Bearing Lube

Does this sound ok to begin with?  Got most of my info from
http://www.misbehavin-rc.com/

I want to eventually upgrade to a brushless motor or at least a good
aftermarket motor maybe a 17 turn based on advice from the LHS but that
would also involve strengthening the drivetrain and transmission gears and
some other stuff I'm not familiar with so will leave alone at this time.

Sounds fine to me.  If you bash the next thing your likely going to
have problems with is probably the shocks.  The plastic ones start out
good but as they wear they start to leak and the tops come off.  I
would wait till it happened then look for some metal ones.  The rears
will wear out first since that is where the weight is.  With metal
shocks on the rear of my nephews Stampede I think nothing of letting
him take the ramps at the local skate park, easy 8 foot air with
landings on concrete.

The Rustler rear shocks are the same as the ones on the Bandit,
Stampede,T-Maxx, S-Maxx and E-Maxx.  While it can be hard to find
Rustler shocks and springs T-Maxx shocks and springs are plentiful so
search that way.
