Anyone removed a carb on an HPI S-25?

Howdy y'all,

Went to yank the carb last night to seal it up with some silicone and no
dice.  Backed the screw and lockwasher out, and the carb wouldn't budge.
Tried to remove the crosspin using a hammer and punch and it wouldn't budge
either.  According to the exploded parts diagram it <looks> like the
crosspin needs to come out to remove the carb, but it is REALLY stuck in
there and I don't want to heat the area with a torch or oven (melt the
silicone carb boot) or hit the damn thing any harder than I already have.

HTF do you get this thing off?!

I've had a couple get stuck over the years.  The way I've allways gotten
them out is like this:

Unscrew the allen bolt (they have all been hex heads in my case) a little,
at least till the head of the bolt isn't flush with the cracnk case (maybe
1mm sticking out of the case).  Then I use that bolt head to get the stuck
bit out (cause usually the stuck bit is the bit the screw screws into) using
a drift if it is really stuck.  The thing is to make sure you have something
really solid underneath the crank case right up near where the crosspin will
fall out, but not covering it.  Then you can give the drift short sharp jabs
with a hammer (but follow through with the hammer, that way you leave the
weight of the hammer head on the drift, I find that technique more
successfull than bouncing the head on the drift)

Might also help to remove the screw, then squirt some CRC/WD40 down the hole
and leave it for 20 minutes or so, might penetrate the area just enough to
make a difference...

Oh and there are 2 halves of the cross pin btw and they come out each side
of the crank case once the screw is out.

HTH

I did one a few weeks back on the S25 - basically, took the screw right out,
and then tapped the carb gently with a spanner, then wiggled and pulled, and
it eventually came off.

After you take the nut out from the retainer pin, try to push it back
using a screwdriver.  That should "unlock" some of the tension that got
built up and unstuck the carb.  It has always worked for me.

Like DanTXD said i.e. you just remove the screw and wiggle it off... may take
some effort to remove!
