Hi all, after taking my Emaxx out on the bituman on the w/e I'm hooked :)  I
also found out that it wheelies uncontrollable when you boot it standstill,
in 1st *or* 2nd!!!  No reverse required, just plant it and whoa!  The thing
flies when I drove it in my mates paddock, 3-4" grass in 2nd gear the thing
hauls arse!

Anyways, since I'm used to Savage toughness, I'd like to replace all the
plastic gears in the box with metal ones.  The problem is I can only find a
hardened steel idler kit.  Idealy I'd like all the gears metal, does anyone
know of a manufacturer that does this?  or manufacturers?

On the topic of dual 14.4v motor trucks, I've noticed that the E-zilla also
has plastic driveshafts :(   bummer!  I also cant see anywhere that it has a
2 speed in it like the E-Maxx, can anyone confirm this?  Fingers crossed MIP
make a drive shaft kit for it...

Cheers Dre

Why do you want to replace the gears?  Considering how many vehicles,
gas and electric, run non-metallic gears I am not sure why people still
think they aren't any good.  Metal gears heat up and change gear mesh
as you run.  They need lubed, while many of the non-mettalic parts
actually lube themselves as they wear.  Metal gears are heavier and
waste more energy.  There are situations that call for metal gears, but
until you wear out the ones you have I won't be convinced this is one
of those situations.

You will tear up your drive shafts long before those gears wear.  I
never lost a gear other then the spur, but I replaced several drive
shafts.  The reason I lost the spur is I did not have the slipper
locked and the heat melted the center out of it, none of the teeth
broke.  What did it cost to replace, $3?  Fill the holes with pegs and
lock your slipper down as far as it will go, the gears can take it.

Check out this E-Maxx

Crazy speed and 45 minutes of run-time.  Notice he is running
non-metallic gears.

Don't know about the E-Savage, whoops, I mean E-Zilla.  My Twin-Force
does not have 2 speeds and I don't really miss it.  I almost never put
my Maxx in low when I had it.  Get a brushless setup and low is only
good for doing cool back-flips.

Now could somebody explain why the E-Zilla comes with that stupid body?
I LIKE VW Bugs and I still think that was a bad idea.

Every now and then you can boot it and you can clearly hear one of the cogs
in the box skip a tooth (I have 12 friction pegs in the slipper and its
TIGHT).  I cant imagine them to hold up like that forever.  Fully understand
about the lube/metal metal contact, but this is what I want to do.

I plan to change the crappy plastic drive shafts to metal ones beforehand
anyway so that isn't a problem.

I also dont plan to run a brushless setup for a very long time as I am happy
with current performance.  I want longevity hence my question.

Sooooo, does anyone know of any manufacturer that makes metal gears for the
gearbox for an E-Maxx???

I also like to rock climb and 1st gear is perfect for that, hence my
question re the E-Zilla, if the E-Zilla doesn't have a 2 speed it wont be as
good as an E-Maxx as far as rock climbing and this will seriously sway my
decision.

Cheers Dre
