Hello all,

I have just recently gained some interest in r/c cars, and was looking
for some information on the best way to get started.  I am looking for
suggestions for a good starter car (new/used) that I do not have to
dump a ton of money into in case it becomes a dust collecting
decoration.  I am most interested in an electric off road car.  I have
noticed that Tamiya has a model called the "Mad Fighter" that is fairly
inexpensive (about $115) but I have not been able to locate one on-line
other than from the Tamiya website (and I am not sure if the general
public can buy from there).

I am also wondering if there is a better starter for a novice like me.
I mean I have "played" with RC cars before, but they were only TOYS
compared to the hobby version.

Are there any good sites where I can get information on what can be
moded and upgraded?  I am new to this also, so I am not sure what all
can be done to these cars.

Any information or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

j

Do a search here, this question gets asked about once a week.

Are there shops near you?  If so what do they carry parts for?

The Mad Fighter is a joke in 2005.  It has a solid rear axle and
friction shocks.

Check out the Traxxas Rustler, Stampede or Bandit.  They have oil
filled shocks, independent suspension, plenty of aftermarket parts and
cheap factory parts available.

I would recommend the Tamiya Gravel Hound or Rising Storm to a
beginner.  They are the same 4wd buggy, just different bodies.  Can be
bought RTR or built.  They handle better and are better climbers then
2wd vehicles.
