Sunday morning, I'm waiting for my batteries to charge so I can take the
E-maxx out for a bash, so I'm just fiddling with the thing, looking over it
for any loose screws etc.  I flip the thing over and notice the driveshafts,
particularly the amount of wear in the unis, damn I never knew they were
that flogged out, pretty soon I reckon I'll bust one of the rear ones....

Anyway, the batteries finish charging, I load up and I'm off to the local
reserve to abuse "the Rock".  About 5 minutes into the first pair of
batteries, the front left hand side drive shaft breaks.  I only noticed
cause the truck turned into a slow arse piece of crap that could climb over
a twig! (thanks to the lack of grip from the fronts).  So I drive her over
and take a look.  The front left axle at the wheel is damaged where the uni
is.  Doh!  I then spent the next 15 minutes driving it around normally (not
like I stole it, ie the fun way :) and popping that axle back in 50 times
before I got sick of that and went home.

When I got home, I logged onto the internet and went looking for metal axles
:)

Are MIP the only ones that make decent axles for an E-Maxx??  Cause I am
planning to go with those...

Either way, at least this will give me a chance to get my Savage sorted
finally so no biggie...

Cheers Dre
(currently with patched up RWD E-Maxx :)

Any that fit a T-Maxx (2.5) will fit the E-Maxx (newer widearms/widemaxx)..
This should give you plenty to choose from.....

Well thats the thing, I could only find ones from MIP and no-name ones from
China.  I'd rather get the MIPS over the no-names, but if I can get a setup
like the hardened dogbone setup in my Savage I'd rather that.  I dont like
the fact that the entire MIP shaft relies on a very small pin and cup
arrangement.  Yoke/dogbone setups are the strongest imo as they have the
biggest yokes/shafts etc (plus some manufacturers even sell hardened
versions of same, ie Savage)

Oh and I have the original non-wide arms on my E-Maxx as I converted my
original version 1 T-Maxx...

This would be a great time to try two wheel drive! What you experienced
is not true two wheel drive, as you had the lack of grip from the two
wheel drive, without any of the benefits, and with broken pieces of it
flopping around to get stuck in things. To try it, just take the front
axles, center drive, and diff out.

My Nitro Stampede is two wheel drive, and it can climb over twigs, so I
hope that was an exageration. :D

I don't like CVDs much. Mostly because the Nitro Stampede/Nitro Rustler
MIPs were really really bad. I have a little experience with the maxx
versions, they are much better. Axles are something that are always
going to want to break at the worst times however, and nothing will
completely prevent this. If you want to be cheap, just replace the
stockers. Revo axles can be installed with some custom fitting, and are
fairly nice. I run them on my Nitro Stampede, which has a .27. I only
have one take of fuel during break-in through them, but they did hold
up. The non-running truck is another story which I should not hijack
this thread with, however.

<snip>

Oh its allready missing its front driveshafts and front center!  Cant have a
busted axle stop me from driving :)

yeah the twig bit was an exageration :)  Its just no where near as good at
rock climbing with only the rears driving it (fair enough really)...

What I do like about the 2wd is the ability to do MASSIVE power slides in
the gravel, cause it takes so much longer to get moving, the rears rooster
tail all the time, great fun for all :)  When you floor it, it'll sit there
on teh spot for half a second and sort of move sideways untill the rears
bury themselves into the ground enough to launch, but I miss being able to
steer it properly once it gets going, way to easy to spin...

Cheers Dre
