One of the cells in my battery pack has cracked open and it gets hotter then
the other cells when riding. Is this a well known scenario? And what is the
best solution to this problem?
Here is a picture of the damaged cell:

Here's an idea, how bout' you replace that battery before it explodes and
takes your truck with it.

Replace the pack..or..solder in/replace the battery with a new one and use
the pack.
The cell has shorted out.

You can replace the cell, but make sure you get them to the same
voltage first. If you have 1 dead cell and 5 charged ones you can't
charge the dead cell without over-charging the charged ones. Discharge
all the cells to the same level, then replace the cell.
Since your taking the pack apart you might consider getting rid of the
stick configuration for a more efficient race style pack. Buy some
battery bars.
If you have not soldered on batteries before you need a hot iron to do
it. I had a 20w I used for electronics work that could not melt solder
on a battery. I had to get a 40w for batteries.
If soldering and messing with batteries is totally new to you then I
hope you have a good hobby shop near you. See if they can fix the
battery for you.
