Your the second person I have heard that from. Seems it wouldn't be
hard to put some protection mechanism on the unit. Do you know of any
other ESC in that price range? Its for my son who will not be doing any
serious driving.

If your using Tamiya plugs it is not much of a problem. They are near
impossible to get wrong. I replaced my plugs with more efficient ones
that are not as "user proof". My nephew was trying to help so he
plugged in the battery when I was not looking and asked me, "Is this
right?" after he had turned it on. Yeah, I agree there should be
something to keep it from blowing up. Maybe not the $40 ESCs, but my
expensive ESCs don't have any protection either.
So for the money I can't think of a better ESC.
