Basic RC question regarding frequencies...

This summer I bought a cheap RC boat.  However, the remote controller
(27Mhz) broke and since I only had a 49mhz truck, I could not
interchange the controller between the 2 RC devices.

I just purchased another RC truck with a 27mhz controller.  I figured
this would also me to have 1 controller for 2 devices ( the boat and
the truck).  However, I am surprised to see that the boat does not
seem to work with the RC truck remote controller.  Shouldn't all 27mhz
devices work with this new 27mhz controller??

do you have the same crystal numbers in both?

There are several frequencies on the 27Mhz band (ranging from 26.995 Mhz up
to 27.995 Mhz) usually determined by the crystal that is in the transmitter
and receiver.  You probably have a different frequency in your boat's
receiver than you have in your transmitter.

Yank the crystal from your truck's rx and put it in the boat's
rx.................this should do the trick.  If your tx is broadcasting on
26.995Mhz and your rx is listening on 27.995Mhz they'll never hear
eachother.

Well 27 has more than that IE

27.095
27.105

Damn!  Why don't they just say so on the boxes!   I just assumed that
27mhz was...27mhz...  How stupid of me...

Now, could I also remove the crystal from the 49mhz truck and put in
the boat?  Of course, I first have to figure out what is the "crystal"
and what it looks like...

No, crystals will only work on the same frequency band.  A 49Mhz crystal
will not work in a 27Mhz transmitter or receiver.  What brand and model are
you running?  The only stuff I've seen on 49Mhz are the cheap "toys" they
sell at Wal-Mart and the like, so I'm assuming all of your vehix are the
cheap ones, in which case they will not even have crystals.
