For those of you who use Simple Green to clean your R/C vehicles (I use a
1:1 solution of Simple Green and Denatured alcohol myself) and live in
America, Lowe's has 1 gallon (128oz) of concentrate on sale right now for
$8.97.  The 32oz bottles are $3.87 to give you a point of reference.  I
bought two gallons as I use it as an automotive degreaser and general
purpose cleaner in the garage as well as on my R/C stuff..  If the stores
are set up the same way nationwide, there's an endcap display with the
gallons at the "front" of the household cleaner aisle.

Now if they'd only have a deal like that on Denatured
alcohol........................<g>

Do you have your electronics covered? If so, with balloons??

After you spray the truck, do you use a compressor to blow the
dirt/liquid away?

I use it everywhere on my nitro vehicles but don't spray directly on the
electronics. I soak everything then use a small paint brush to dislodge
stubborn grime. I then use a fine stream of water to wash it away. Some
guys do the same thing but after the water use a air hose to dry.

On my electrics I spray arms and chassis but don't get it near the
electronics then use a terry cloth towel to dry it off.

All of my trucks are nitro with sealed radio boxes, so I just hose the whole
thing down (servos included), let it sit for a few minutes, then blow it
clean/dry with a compressor (I run 90psi thru my blow gun).

Haven't had any problems with my servos or electronics using this method.
Even if some does manage to get into the servos, the alcohol evaporates it
away pretty quickly.  If I used water as a dilutent I'd be much more careful
around the electronics.

Ok, thanks. So if I balloon my receiver/failsafe, the servos should be
ok as long I don't drench them.

So you guys dont cover your air cleaner or exhaust outlet when you wash and
blow your vehicles down?  This is something that I have gotten in the habbit
of doings.  I just use a plastic bag and rubber band over the aircleaner to
stop it from soaking up any of the cleaning agent and water and use a rubber
plug I found to cover the exhaust.  The exhaust plug stays on until I run
the truck next and cleaning the air cleaner is the last thing I do beforing
putting the truck on the shelf.

Keeping the aircleaner and exhaust tip covered when storing the truck for
long periods seems to have made the truck pretty easy to start.  It was not
started for about 3 months over winter and when I started it for the first
time 2 weeks ago it cranked straight over and started idling straight away.
The other thing that keeping the exhaust tip sealed does is, that it keeps
the burnt nitro smell out of the lounge room and keeps the missus off my
back.

Probably also helps if she has her own trucks as well, shes now got my old
Tmaxx and Emaxx and I have the new 46, stampede and Clod crawler

Cheers

I use a spray bottle with the nozzle set to "jet" so I have a pretty
accurrate stream.  I just avoid spraying the air cleaner and around the
exhaust outlet.  Haven't had any problems so far.

"46" what?  Genesis or Nemesis I reckon?  Or did you mean 4.6 Savage?

One more question. I can't find denatured alcohol near me. Is ethyl the
same?

Not sure if ethyl alcohol is the same or not; pretty sure it's not.  Go to
your nearest Lowe's, Home Depot, or other hardware store and look in the
paint thinner section.  It will either be labeled "Denatured Alcohol" or
"Shellac Thinner."  It'll be with the mineral spirits, turpentine, etc.

http://ptcl.chem.ox.ac.uk/MSDS/DE/denatured_alcohol.html

Denatured alcohol is ethyl alcohol (ethanol) to which a small percentage of
methyl alcohol (methanol) has been added to render the mixture poisonous. A
blue dye may also be added to indicate that the liquid is not drinkable.
