ephedralover@hotmail.com - 13 Dec 2005 22:39 GMT Which of these choices would be best for bashing. 80/20 street/dirt driving. No racing. I assume the Jato would be much more nimble than the heavier Maxx trucks, but maybe not hold up as well jumping, and going over rough terrain. Any comments? Thanks.

HPI Savage is the ultimate basher. Out of the three that you mentioned, S-Maxx or Sport Maxx would be better bashers than the Jato which is pretty damn small and flimsy.
You really should go for a big-block, 4WD truck however! If you're spending that kind of money might as well get something you'll like a few years down the road.

He's right you know. A savage is just invincible as far as i can - S-Maxx is just silly as a T-Maxx is the same price and better - and a Sav 3.5 is about the same price, and better in EVERY way. Jato - from personal experience is weak and a bit crappy.

Jato looks like a goddamned toy next to anything else....................even a T-Maxx makes it look like a Matchbox car! Next to the ol' Savage it's just plain hilarious. I completely smoked one with my Mayhem ST not too long back. Traxxas says 56mph but that's a load of bull; my Mayhem has been clocked at 50.7mph and made the Jato look like it was standing still. And yes, the Jato was tuned correctly...........I'm the one who tuned it!

"Jato looks like a goddamned toy next to anything", thats piss funny, LOL!
I fitted my wheelie bar the other week, its the pornest thing I've ever installed on it. 4 screws and 1 minute and its either on or off, so easy, and when you pin it, it wheelies and wheelies and wheelies (just keep your finger on the throttle!)
Cheers Dre

The first thing I thought when I saw one in person was "where's the rest of it?" It is pathetically small and just looks wimpy. It weights practically nothing hence is inherently weak due to lack of substance!

HAHAHA :) Fair enough, I checked one out at the LHS and nothing really jumped out at me and said "I'M HELL FUN, BUY ME NOW!"

I'll put a couple of pics I've got up in my album and post here again. It comes with 2 types of wheel too, big and small and the thing tucks up the back of the truck so well even if you did screw up a landing off a jump, I reckon it would survive. (but like I say, 4 screws and 1 minute and its off again)

To be fair to it - I found it was a good laugh, drifting around, but after about 10 minutes it got dull, the back end was all over the place too much so.

Hey that sounds like my kind of car! I love things that are had to control or have toooo much power, great fun putting on massive power slides! Allthough if its a bit too tail happy, like never ever hook it up, then yeah, bit crap.
I love doing power slides in the savage when on dusty concrete, looks so awesome watching the tires suck under and allmost roll off the rims and squirm under pressure :)
That and massivly long wheelies on the wheelie bar! LOL

Then we jumped it. That was quite funny :D with ALL the weight at the back and only RWD controlling it in the air was literally like trying to control a herd of cats. Then it landed and the arms disintegrated.

I'll stick to my Inferno and chuck some ST/MT tires on it when I get around to it and kick some Jato arse!
End of next week and I'm on holidays, I'm planning to run my cars A LOT as I have been so busy. There should be enough people watching for me to be able to convince one or two of them to take some photos/movies so I'll post when I get em!
Have a good one!
Cheers Dre

I'm home from Uni tmrw and we already have plans for going out with them, 3 of us, inc one shiney new Sav Ltd Edition 3 speed. Expect pictures on Sunday night of the weekends carnage and damage ;-)

I'm in the midst of building an unholy flying machine (SPAD) made of L-channel aluminum for the fuse and coroplast for the wings. Gunna put a .47 on the nose using a kitchen cutting board for the engine mount. 48" long with 60" wingspan. Should be FUN! It has been dubbed the BUHOR (Big Ugly Hell On Rails).
I'll sh.t my pants if it actually flies.

Steering is slow, takes a while to slow down. I just didn't enjoy the weight of the truck. I think a lighter, smaller stadium style truck is more my taste. More agile, etc.

If you really like the Traxxas stuff, I can vouch for the Traxxas Nitro Rustler as being very quick, nimble and fairly durable. A fella I run with has one and while my Savage and Mayhem ST both romp on it pretty bad it holds it's own. It's tougher than the Jato IMO. Also, an S-Maxx or Sport-Maxx will weigh and handle just about the same as a T-Maxx; the only thing difference is lack of a front diff and reverse servo which really doesn't save much weight.
