In order to clean the chassis from dirt and other accumulated mess, what
do ppl suggest?  Can I use just carb. or break cleaner?

Do NOT use carb cleaner, it will melt the plastic!  You can use brake parts
cleaner but make sure it's DECHLORINATED or it'll melt the plastic.  I use
dechlorinated brake parts cleaner on my nitros all the time with no
problems.  Keep it away from the lexan body.........but it won't hurt the
rest of the chassis plastic.

I also use a 1:1 solutiuon of Simple Green and Denatured alcohol in a spray
bottle, which I find works better and costs less than the brake parts
cleaner.

An air compressor w/blow gun is ideal as well.......................

same here but I've been using a ratio of 3 parts simple green to 1 part
denatured alcohol.

WOW that must be a pretty potent brew!  I like it with more alcohol as it
evaporates off a bit quicker.  I do use it full strength on my 1:1 autos
when I need a potent degreaser.  Smells good too.

I've had probs with too much alcohol in that it fouls up or eats away at
the sprayer head in spritz bottles. Weird.

Hmmmmm, now that you mention it....................my spray bottles get
pretty munged up after I fill em' with my brew and use em' once or twice.  I
might try less alcohol and see if that's what's causing it.  Thanks!

Thx for the info, I have access to a auto shop, so i was just
wondering..  Really didnt feel like get the high $$ cleaner that the
hobby shops sell, besides since I dont have a HS near by, it will be
mail ordered and will cost 2x due to shipping...

I was in the same position as you when I got into this hobby.  My "prior"
hobby was classic car restoration so I had tons of automotive chemicals
laying around and experimented with them.  Non-Chlorinated brake parts
cleaner works really well, but leaves a milky look to the black plastic
parts.  You can shine up the black plastic parts with WD-40 or any
multi-purpose spray lube on a toothbrush.

Remember Dan, a clean truck is a happy truck!  I must say, the BEST cleaner
I have found so far is snow!  After running both the Savage and Mayhem in
the snow, both are spotless!  I dried them out in front of my kerosene
torpedo heater and viola, clean as a whistle.

I can NOT get the Savage to run with a sh.t in the cold weather.  No amount
of tuning, head socks or glow plug combos will get her running right.  Leans
out big time when returning to idle after a high-speed run and cackles like
a mo-fo.  Damned S-25 has always been a pain in the a.s to tune and has
always been unreliable.  Gunna drop a Sportwerks .26 in it very shortly.

My Mayhem on the other hand was a blast!  Required a very minor retune (1/4
turn LSN and 1/4 turn HSN) and she was off!  Ran about a quart thru her
(very thirsty motor!) and then blew the clutch bearings.  ;-(   Ordered the
parts yesterday and should be rippin' it up for New Years.  I have half a
mind to throw the Mayhem motor in the Savage and just get a new one for the
Mayhem.......

Actually after the run in the snow in the other day she does like quite
clean...

No no no, go for a man sized engine ;)  Get a OS .30 in there, or a SH.28
Pro (new conrod that doesn't snap and 3.81hp!).

What kinda temps is it out there?  We were running in about 1-2c and they
ran very well.

Hmmmm??? Depends on just how dirty it is. Asuming this is a off road car, a
rag and some 409 will do. A careful shot of garden hose if very muddy
(please cover electrical parts with some kitchen plastic wrap!). For the
most part, cars are always dirty. Just wipe the dust off and clean the
wheels to keep the bearings working. Remember, you don't have to eat off
the car....
