Well I love it. It's very durable, shifts sweetly, goes like the clappers
and there is infinate mods available. Starting depends on the engine and
your preferred method. I have a K4.6 Hpi engine with Roto-start and it
starts very easily. Upkeep, well I never clean it and the other day I did
this -

And it still goes well :-). The diffs have been known to be a problem with
Savages however, but the new ones are a lot better, and there are some
further steps you can take to bullet proof them, but i've never bothered and
mine are fine :)

Read all about it here bud!
SS4.6-->http://www.hpiracing.com/kits/kitMain.php?partNo=871
25RTR-->http://www.hpiracing.com/kits/kitMain.php?partNo=832
There's a video of the rotostart in the 25 link above. You can grab em'
pretty much anywhere. E-Bay and Tower Hobbies are the cheapest.
I doubt he broke anything when he did that jump. That's a walk in the park
for a Savage. I jump mine about 10' high by 20' long on a huge tabletop
jump at the local track and have yet to break it jumping. The only time
I've actually hurt it is when I hit a tree head-on doing 40+ MPH. I've done
that twice <evil grin>. I can send you some pics of the carnage if you drop
me your e-mail addy.
Some cons with the Savage (I mentioned pros in my other post):
1. LOUD! If you consider that a con. Some people don't like the noisy
nature of this beast. I personally like the noise.
2. Doesn't turn too well at high speeds (this is typical of Monster trucks
in general).
3. A bit difficult at first to work on d/t the way it's put together.
After you've had it apart once or twice it's really easy to wrench on.
4. If you get the SS4.6 or LE the three speed tranny is a real bitch to
tune.
That's just about all the cons I can think of right now.

If you get a 25 RTR or a 3 speed Ltd Edt it comes with it. If not, wherever
you buy the Sav from would have one. www.savage-central.com is a good
place!

I cracked a bulkhead just before that jump hitting a grinding rail, flat out
with one side... That's the only real damage i've ever done.

Note that it's the design that makes it difficult to work on that also gives
it it's strength though.

Is there a big difference from the 3 speed and just the 2??? I also
noticed that tower hobbies stated they dont have the limited edition of
the savage till Jan, but have the 25RTR. Also do you get the same
better radio as u do with the 25rtr as with the limited edition???? But
if you went to savage.com they have it listed for 100 bucks less. One
last question for now. Does anyone know anything about the Duratrex
Warehead????

Yes, the three speed is much better. Lower first gear means faster
take-offs and taller third gear means higher top speeds. However, if you're
brand new to nitro, I would NOT recommend the three speed. You have to take
the tranny apart to tune it and to get at the tranny you have to pretty much
take the whole truck apart. I would start with the two-speed and once
you've got that down pat get the three-speed upgrade kit. You're going to
have enough trouble tuning the motor to worry about the tranny as well.

They both come with the same radio.

That's probably the SS25 kit which does NOT include a radio or maybe even an
old 21 kit.

Other than it looks cool......................no. I want to know more as
well, but until I know someone who has one and see it run, I'm not gunna
fork out $400 for it!

Yup!
>Can you tell me more about it??
Big, heavy, fast and TOUGH. It will obliterate any Traxxas product on the
market.

Biggest pluses I see are it's durability, parts availability, and the
infinite hop ups that are available. Pretty fast, wheelies like mad, jumps
like a dream and is easy to maintain.
>Is it easy
> to start, how the tranny on it,does it shift smooth??
If you get a rotostart-equipped truck (handheld electric starter) it's a
piece of cake to start. Tranny shifts quickly, reliably and smoothly.
>Upkeep?
Like all 4WD trucks, you need to keep on top of things like checking all the
screws, oiling the motor, yadda yadda. All in all not too hard to maintain.

So between the 3 of them, which is the better trk, the savage SS
4.6(big block) - Savage 25 Nitro(which I like the color and tires
better) - Or the limited Edition (the 3speed)?
Which one does everyone have??

I have the 25RTR (or at least it used to be, it's all hopped up now). I'd
go with the 4.6SS if you have the $$$, then add the three-speed and reverse
when you get the coin to do so. Because it's a kit, you'll get hands on
experience on how it's put together which will make future wrenching much
easier. If funds don't permit, grab the 25RTR and add the three-speed and
reverse later as well. If you look at the price of the LE compared to the
25RTR, it's actually cheaper to buy a 25RTR and add the hop ups to make it
an LE than purchasing the LE outright.
They all have their pros and cons. The two trucks you originally mentioned,
the Revo and the Warhead.............are more racing vehix than bashers. If
you're looking for a race-ready ST I'd look into the Sportwerks Mayhem ST.
I own one and absolutely love it. It's not as durable as the Savage, but
it's much faster, manouverable and easier to work on. Hell, even the motor
is easier to tune. I drive the Savage when I want to jump high, drive over
stuff and crash into Traxxas trucks (I usually break em!). I drive the
Mayhem when I want to go fast, drive patterns or race at the track (it's
pretty decent at both standard and oval tracks).
