How best to clean Savage after run?

My buddy, who bought me my Savage, usually cleans his Savage with a can of
spray cleaner bought at the hobby shop. It seems to take an entire can to do
the job effectively, and at $7+ per can, it seems to me there must be a more
cost-effective way to clean the truck. After running my Savage on "break-in
day", it did seem like I had to use an entire can to clean it properly.

How do you guys clean your truck after a run? I'd appreciate any ideas.

Thanks.

four parts simple green and one part denatured alcohol, use a smallish
paintbrush o stubborn areas then rinse with a spritz of water and dry it
off

On the rare occasions when I clean mine, it's usually a wipe down with a
damp cloth :)  Although pulling the radio tray and chucking it in the shower
works quite well as well.

Run it through short damp grass for a quarter of a tank.  The dirt
that's left won't harm anything.  Besides, a self-powered lump of dried
dirt is a perfectly good alternative to an actuall body shell.

I use 50% Simple Green 50% water mix.
Scrub with a soft toothbrush. Rinse.
Dry well. (air compressor or hairdryer)
Follow up with a light mist of denatured alcohol or apply light lubricant
(wd-40) to parts that will rust.
Re-oil-lube bearings / pivot points....
Works very well.
Do not get water or solution inside motor or pipe or pullstart or on
electronics.
50% Simple Green solution is great for cleaning air filter foam as well.
Rinse good and dry well (squeeze in a towel or rag) re-apply filter oil.
Has a nice smell too...

(Truck is Very Dirty)
Dechlorinated brake parts cleaner @ Wal-Mart.  $2.98 a can and has twice the
volume of nitro cleaner sold at hobby shops.  Works like a charm.  Be SURE
to get dechlorinated as the chlorinated formula will melt your plastic
parts!  The dechlorinated will still kill Lexan and the chrome on your tires
so be sure to remove the body and tires prior to hosing.

(Truck is slightly dirty)
I'll also use a 1:1 solution of simple green and denatured alcohol in a
spray bottle and then an air compressor to blow the rest of the stuff off if
the truck is only slightly dirty.

(Plastic Parts)
WD-40 or generic equivalent on a toothbrush.  Takes the dirt right off and
leaves a glossy black part that looks like new!

Thanks, guys. Never heard of "Simple Green" before. Looks like they carry it
at Home Depot.

I'm glad you guys came up with some good suggestions...I didn't want to go
broke on that expensive spray cleaner.

Much obliged,
Brian
