Pretty cool site - I'd never seen a LandJump, and I'd been wondering
what a "Vanning" was (moral: never let the Japanese come up with product
names, especially for cars!)
Just one suggestion for the game: it needs a big, flashing "Corner cut"
warning so that you know when it's going to disallow your lap.
The site got me thinking, though: the LandJump looks much like other
early R/C buggies (like the Rough Rider & Sand Scorcher) in that it's
got VW type front suspension, swinging or semi-trailing arm rear
suspension, and an open, roll-cage style body.
What were the first cars to have a 'modern' design such as double
wishbones all round and a fully-enclosing Lexan bodyshell? Was the RC10
the first 2WD? Kyosho Optima for 4WD, or were things like the AYK
Radiant or PB Mini Mustang there first?
Or did Tamiya get in there early?

Jonny,
The kyosho landjump is nowhere near a tamiya Rough Rider & Sand
Scorcher... The landjump is 90% aluminium and one of the first mid
engine nitro cars ever made. Tamiya was never near to quality that
Kyosho had in the late 70's and the begining of the 80's. Tamiya
started to make rc cars at a lower cost making cars much cheaper out of
plastic which made Kyosho struggle to stay in the game. When the Tamiya
Bruiser came in to play it was the first time such great pride came for
tamiya and then again they needed to discontinue as they relized how
expensive it was to make in which kyosho did decades ago. Kyosho and
Graupner was the pioneer of the rc cars and many other items until the
cost of making quality items was hard to keep up with the demand. It's
also an 1/8 scale much larger then most tamiya's the kyosho landjump
weights about 7 lbs with no electronics or fuel and it's a beast. It
also can reach speeds of 58 mph stock, which was unheard of in those
days and still pretty fast for these days for a 4wd rc car. You can see
more information at: www.LandJump.com

<snip rant about quality and materials>
I'll re-state my question in case anyone wants to actually answer it,
since I'm genuinely curious:
