Its a black art getting that lid on (IMHO), especially when you have the
standard HPI radio in there.
If you cant push it down all the way, I normally find one of the servo wires
has gotten jammed inbetween the bottom half of the box and the tray the
receiver sits on (particularly where the rear post is).
I'd check down there first and make sure that the receiver tray is sitting
all the way in. Sometimes it also gets a bit stuck at the front. What I've
noticed is its a snug fit so I have taken to the edges of the receiver tray
with a file, just to make slightly less of a snug fit (I would have removed
less than a mill from the front of the tray).
But like I said, you tend to develop a nac to get it off and on again...

Yep, what he said. If you run a rechargeable pack for your receiver and put
a plug on the outside of the case then you almost never have to go into the
cover again. This was the first mod I did to my Savage.

Yup, that's what needs to be done. Clear radio tray lid helps because you
can see what's causing the problem.
