I have a smartech speedy tiger nitro r/c car. After about 8 minutes the
servo broke (you get what you pay for). Will all servos generally fit
all recievers or do i need a specfic one?

Assuming it's not a micro servo, any standard size servo will fit.  But the
horn that goes on the top might need to be changed to accomodate the new
servo.

But, before you spend any money on it, seriously considering chucking it
back on eBay and getting something else...

It seems to be a regular size. I'll have to try to find a hobby store
and picking one up locally.

I have to agree about getting rid of it, but it seems the only real
problems I might have are with the servo. Everything else seems pretty
solid. Im just looking for something to get started with and play
around with a little.

Use a servo from a Savage, they are the best.

Yuk, not the stock ones, they're plastic geared.  Better than stock Traxxas
ones mind you...

Savage hpi servo's suck! If it's for streering, go with an high torque
one.  My savage has an futaba 3310 servo in it, and haven't broke it
yet.

Naw, they're ok at best.  The SF-1 is fine for reverse (stock
throttle/brake), SF-2 is fine for throttle/brake (stock steering) but you
really need a high-torque, metal-geared servo to turn those big meats
attached to a very heavy vehicle.

I would just pop it out and take it to a hobby store. Don't spend over
$10. I think you can get a Futaba S3003 for $10 or so. Should work for
that.

Or online

And break it in another 8 minutes?  Sticking a standard, plastic-geared
servo for steering not only guarantees poor steering response but also
increases the likelihood of a break.  I'd go with a Hitec 645MG or Hobbico
CS-70 (both around $35) which are high-torque, metal geared units.  If he
decides to shitcan the Smartech he'll have a great servo to dump in his next
vehicle.

My bad, I thought this was slow electric toy, I misread. I also like
the 625MG. A little faster but less torqy.

Agreed.  The 625MG is better for throttle/brake on MT/ST/Buggies IMO.  It'd
be great as a steering servo on an on-road car..........

I dunno why I keep buying Hitec servos really, they look great on paper, but
I've had 3 fail on me now...

One word KO-PROPO!  I have never ever had any sort of problem with any of
the servos I have and they are all KO.

From memory the ones in the Savage are PDS-2344FET and PDS-2343FET (and an
older PDS-2004FET as the reverse), they are all 6V and one is a high speed,
the other a high torque.  With the Sav stationary on grass, I can still
steer the wheels to full lock both ways no problems..

For me personally I'll never buy anything but KO servos...

Cheers Dre

What part failed?  The electronics or the gears?  I've been running a 645MG
in my Sav for about 7 gallons and no problems so far.  I also have one on my
Mayhem for about 2 gallons and also no problems.

1 set of gears (NO idea how that happened) in a 645, then electrics in 2
others, swopped the gears into the broken gears one, then that died :)
Haven't had one go for a while now tho...
