I have the Novak Super Sport Plus kit that came with their 5800 motor,
and run it in my stampede with 87/23 gearing. I run it with 6 cell
3800mAh Intellect packs, and it never cogs or hesitates. I'm not sure
if the problem is my gearing, or something else.

It seems like after about 5-6 mintures of running it goes into thermal
overload mode and cuts off power for like half a minute. The ESC's
heatsink is hot, and the heatsink i put on the motor is kinda hot.

What I don't get is that if it's my gearing, I'm kinda dissappointed
because gearing it lower rudeces my top speed significantly, and even
with the gearing I run right now, the torque will flip the stampede
over easily with my masher 2000's.

Does anyone have the SS+ and run the 5800 motor, and know if I just
have a bad model, or do I need to re-gear it?

Thanks,
--Farrell F.

WOW! The problem is way way overgeared. I have the same truck/motor/esc
and I have mine geared 18/87 which is at the limit. On cool days-60f- I
can make it through a 3300mah pack with no problems, but the ESC and
Motor are pretty warm. I would start with 16/87 and see how that works.

indeed.

as for why i had to overgear it, i just found out that my charger was
false peaking my packs. i just borrowed a friends pack, same exact type
i use, and my stampede flew like never before.

i was starting to wonder why my 3800s felt like 3000s...

thanks,

With 16/87 I have only thermalled one time, during the summer while
driving on loose gravel with a 7-cell pack.

Also, if you have not upgraded to an aluminum idler gear, I suggest
you do so soon. Here is a link with more upgrades.

That setup is really fun. The Masher 2k's are great tires.

I just did a Widepede conversion and man o man does it make a huge
difference. The truck is so much more stable.
