I have a Nitro Sport (stock) w/ a 1.5 engine, and was trying to put on a
after market 66t/32p spur gear, but it would not mesh w/ the bell
gear.  I notice that the gear was actually a lil smaller then the
original 70t stock gear.  Is there some adjustment Im missing or need an
adapter, or did i just get the wrong gear?
(bought the kimbrough 66t gear)

The original number of teeth on the spur/clutch mesh was 70/20.  In
order for the gears to mesh, the total number of gears needs to be about
70+20=90.  So a 66 tooth spur would need a 24 tooth clutch.  Traxxas
part# 4122 is a 22 tooth clutch, which should be close enough.

Now be aware that changing the gear ratio, in this case upwards
drastically, will change the power to speed ratio just as drastically.
Your motor needs a certain amount of torque to be "peppy", and the extra
is used for extra top end speed.  Gearing up for more speed takes torque
away from the low end, and vise-versa.

Nope it should be the correct gear but if your clutch bell is worn then you
will have meshing problems.

As per the page 9 of the instruction manual you should put a thin strip of
paper between the spur gear and the clutch bell, then tighten up the 3x8mm
adjusting plate screws as shown in the top left hand photo on the same page
of the manual.

Good Luck

Cheers
