Hi

I am new to RC and have got to bag G of my kit an associated factory
team turck and need now to buy the stuff not included and need help in
selecting what to get.  I will play around the house with it and then
when we go camping in the dirt.  I am thinking of getting:

Motor and speed control
Trinity Monster Horsepower Stock Pro Motor
DuraTrax IntelliSpeed 16T Mild-Modified Reverse ESC
Robinson Racing Pinion Gear 48P 24T

radio
Futaba 2PH 2-Channel AM/1 S3003/1 S3010 Servo 63

Batteries and charger
DuraTrax Piranha AC/DC Peak Power Charger
DuraTrax Shark 6-Cell 1500mAh Sport Standard

Am I on the right track or any other ideas would be appreciated.

That pinion is way too big, you will cook something in no time at all. I'm
not a fan of Monster Stock's for 4wd and trucks either. For that matter, if
you are bashing (ie not racing) then stock motors are not the best way to
go. They are engineered very finely for maximum performance possible for 5
minutes. After that they get very hot very quickly (or sooner with the
pinion you are talking about:-). They also require constant com cutting and
brush replacement to stay at their best.

For bashing, I would recommend one of the spec 19T motors, there are plenty
to choose from, any will be great for what you are doing. Get an 18T and a
19T pinion, start with the 18T pinion.  Your choice of pinion brand
(Robinson) is good.

Your speed controller is fine for what you want to do.

Can't comment on your radio choice.

I think you can do yourself some favours with your battery choice - for
bashing, the maxamps IB3800 or IB4200 stick packs represent excellent value,
and you will get much more fun (ie faster for longer) with them. The only
issue with these packs is that they are NIMH so you need a charger which
will do NIMH. There are plenty to choose from, just look for a charger which
does NIMH at 4 amps (at least, five would be better, six is overkill for
bashing).
