The manual for my car says to clean the air filter in some air filter
cleaner, then to re-oil it.  However I read on a website that really
you should do this, because is cleaning the air filter it absorbs some
particles into the filter which later get sucked into the engine.  This
person recommended changing the filter about every 2 litres of fuel (or
when its dirty).

Just curious about your recommendations?  Mine is pretty dirty from my
last run so I'm unsure if I should just clean it or replace it
completely.

I just clean them myself, squeeze them out good in the sink in some washing
powder and hot water.

I use hot water and dish soap.  Never had a problem.

I use 50/50 water and simplegreen...(as I use on the rest of the truck)
remove filter...spray it down with 50/50 solution and squeeze out dirt and
solution...repeat once...then use just water until all the soapy solution is
out...
then squeeze filter with a dry rag a few times to get out water..then just
re-oil her up!

Okay thanks.  The theory I read about not washing it because dirt gets
imbedded into the air filter and then sucked into the engine on next
use didn't sound too solid to me.

I guess my next question is, considering I'm cleaning it and re-using
it, how often should it be replaced totally?  How often do you do it?

Thanks

If your playing in dusty dirt it will need to be cleaned probably atleast
once that day if not twice or three times...
It it just a simple matter of looking at it and seeing if airflow is being
restricted to much.
I have a buggy that I have had for about 7 years and it has the same air
filter....
I would recommend a 2 stage filter to you though.

When cleaning a dirty filter here is another tip:
When you remove the filter..have your RC turned upside down so no particles
will fall into the carb.
