What's everyone's fantasy RC car / truck then?  I'm talking over the top
obscene expense, get a mortgage to afford it type of thing....

If said car was built, what speed would it do, how durable, how easy to
handle etc etc?  Reason for asking, im trying to see if the "skies the
limit" with this hobby or not....just how expensive can a toy car be?  I am
in the UK....

Well part of that was the beer talking ;-)  I'd also have, a well set up 3
speed in there, a tsais hardened inline pipe, mid tank mod, some of those
£100 a piece Sanwa servos and a nice synthesised radio with ABS and all that
exciting gubbins i'd never use but i *need*.  Maybe a few new shells and
wheel/tyre options and some better Alu shock towers - Nova ones should do.
Also some nice Nova alloy diff cups and generally bullet proofed diffs.
That'd do me :-)   That's probably another £500....

Savage I have now, well, what are they base price now, just over £300 - all
the titanium Hardcore Racing stuff adds up to about £180 at new prices as
they were, £60 of servos, £20 for the polished tuned pipe, £80 for the
engine (and £100 for the last engine and roto), wheel and tyre combo, about
£50 new I reckon, and how much have I spent on fuel/spares/general RC costs?
Well... that's probably a truely worrying figure :-)  And let's not even
start on the other THREE RCs I just flogged...

Oh, £30 for the Robinson Racing hardened combo as well.  Why is it good?
Because it's fast and it's very, very tough.  Also, it looks cool :-)

I would have to have several.. a 1:1 scale Wolfe Edition Lamborghini
Countach and Dodge Viper GTS and Camaro RS SS, a Yenko Camaro and Yenko
Nova, a COPA Camaro, a Ford Shelby Cobra and a Convertible Hemi Cuda so I
could take out the servos and really drive them!
=)
How much would this cost me?

Mune would be a revo with a savage 3-speed gearbox, and have the fuel
tank placed inling with the engine instead of beside it, to help
prevent turn leaning the engine.

Kyosho MP777 ST-R with a Sirio .28 and full Fioroni options, all controlled
by a Nomadio radio system.  We're talking in the neighborhood of $4,000 by
the time it was all said and done.  I've currently got about $2000 in my
Kanai 3 buggy right now, maybe $1100 in my Savage and around $800 in my
Mayhem ST.  This hobby loves money.

I'm about the same as Doc for a Savage ($1000) and a Tmaxx ($1100).  If I
include those many parts we have broken and replaced over the years or just
upgraded for the fun of spending money you could add another $500 or $600.

I also have a 1/18th scale Losi Mini T worth around $1200 too.  Top speed is
a measly 93 kph (clocked on a radar gun).

I've easily spent $20k over the last 20 years on RC toys, cars, planes and
helicopters.

To answer you other questions.  My fantasy RC Truck is a Tamiya Mountaineer
or Bruiser.  Handling is very poor, durability is excellent and speed would
have been pretty close to scale, really slow.  Realism is as close to a real
4WD that you will ever find in a RC model.  Price now days can cost any
where up to $2000 second hand off eBay and if you add electrics to that cost
your looking at another $500'ish.

Cheers

A grand seems to be about average for a nicely hopped up monster eh?  Ditto
on the replacement parts and normal wear and tear items, I didn't factor
them into the prices I listed.

What kinda b/l and lipo setup you running?

I haven't ventured into planes or helis yet, but a small, electric heli is
next on the list; will be acquired within the next month or so.  I'm looking
at a Blade CX to start with ($169 RTF).

Old skool!  Did you see the bastardized re-release yet?

Here, I'll help ya!

I figure add an extra battery and a few replacement rotors and I'll be in
like flint for under $200.

I pondered on getting an electric helicopter "Dragonfly"...but my bud got 1
before I could...
Glad I got to see it..cause I won't get one...broken skids,wobbly
propellers, tail motors getting knocked off...
No, I mean, NO room for error with the things at all or your replacing
pieces.
Stick with land vehicles and save youself a headache, or get an airplane
that is simple and cheap. (Firebird/Firebird II) or the likes..
A little wind outside? Forget playing with your new toy!
I would rather spend my cash on something that doesn't have so many factors
involved.

In the UK have a look a http://www.jperkinsdistribution.co.uk they are the
distributor for the one that I got, the Twister CP V2 which is the same as
the Blade CP sold in the USA.  The Blade CX and Twister Bell are great
learner heli's and cheap enough that if you dont enjoy the hobby it wont
break the bank if you destroy it.

The other reason I got the Twister CP V2 is because it has a trainer port in
the back of the 6 channel radio and for the price of a $1 worth of
electrical compenents and a old printer cables I had sitting around I built
a trainer lead to go to the computer so I could train myself and teach
myself the control inputs a lot better.  Its not like a RC car or truck
where you can just put it to full throttle or go full lock one way or the
other on the steering.  A little control input means a lot for the
helicopters and it really is a good trainer for cars and trucks racing.

Mini T Pro, Mamba ESC and 8000kv (Need For Speed), no good for anything else
except sand dunes and Hacker 4200kv for racing and several battery
configurations from 6,7 and 8 cells 2/3a's to 2S and 3S lipo's.

The 8kv is a great set up in the sand dunes with paddle tyres but it will
destroy a set of pins in the gravel in minutes.  I also have a set of foam
and rubber tyres for running on the road.  About the only time I can get
full throttle is in the sand dunes, on the road full throttle comes very
late otherwise it will wheelie and flip over backwards at any where up to
70% or 80% throttle.

Heli's - I had never flown them before but have always been interested.  I
flew my brothers Blade CP in the states when I was there last month and had
a blast.  I nearly bought one while I was there but then I looked on the net
and found the equal (Twister CP V2) was actually cheaper here in Aus and
came with 2 lipo's and charger instead of the single nimh pack.  The Twister
CP V2 version also has the carbon fibre blades (honestly I didn't break
them, the chair that got in the way did (WARNING - Don't fly in front of
your plasma or LCD television or around your pets or children)).

Despite being a poor plastic attempt at the Bruiser I think I will still get
the new Tamiya Ford F350 High-Lift.  It will never be a Bruiser or
Mountaineer but you cant expect quality like that in this day and age.  I
just hope it doesn't require a 4 channel radio like the Bruiser did.  That
was the biggest downfall of the Bruiser.

Cheers
