A grand seems to be about average for a nicely hopped up monster eh? Ditto
on the replacement parts and normal wear and tear items, I didn't factor
them into the prices I listed.

What kinda b/l and lipo setup you running?

I haven't ventured into planes or helis yet, but a small, electric heli is
next on the list; will be acquired within the next month or so. I'm looking
at a Blade CX to start with ($169 RTF).

Old skool! Did you see the bastardized re-release yet?

I figure add an extra battery and a few replacement rotors and I'll be in
like flint for under $200.

I pondered on getting an electric helicopter "Dragonfly"...but my bud got 1
before I could...
Glad I got to see it..cause I won't get one...broken skids,wobbly
propellers, tail motors getting knocked off...
No, I mean, NO room for error with the things at all or your replacing
pieces.
Stick with land vehicles and save youself a headache, or get an airplane
that is simple and cheap. (Firebird/Firebird II) or the likes..
A little wind outside? Forget playing with your new toy!
I would rather spend my cash on something that doesn't have so many factors
involved.

In the UK have a look a http://www.jperkinsdistribution.co.uk they are the
distributor for the one that I got, the Twister CP V2 which is the same as
the Blade CP sold in the USA. The Blade CX and Twister Bell are great
learner heli's and cheap enough that if you dont enjoy the hobby it wont
break the bank if you destroy it.
The other reason I got the Twister CP V2 is because it has a trainer port in
the back of the 6 channel radio and for the price of a $1 worth of
electrical compenents and a old printer cables I had sitting around I built
a trainer lead to go to the computer so I could train myself and teach
myself the control inputs a lot better. Its not like a RC car or truck
where you can just put it to full throttle or go full lock one way or the
other on the steering. A little control input means a lot for the
helicopters and it really is a good trainer for cars and trucks racing.
Cheers

Mini T Pro, Mamba ESC and 8000kv (Need For Speed), no good for anything else
except sand dunes and Hacker 4200kv for racing and several battery
configurations from 6,7 and 8 cells 2/3a's to 2S and 3S lipo's.
The 8kv is a great set up in the sand dunes with paddle tyres but it will
destroy a set of pins in the gravel in minutes. I also have a set of foam
and rubber tyres for running on the road. About the only time I can get
full throttle is in the sand dunes, on the road full throttle comes very
late otherwise it will wheelie and flip over backwards at any where up to
70% or 80% throttle.
Heli's - I had never flown them before but have always been interested. I
flew my brothers Blade CP in the states when I was there last month and had
a blast. I nearly bought one while I was there but then I looked on the net
and found the equal (Twister CP V2) was actually cheaper here in Aus and
came with 2 lipo's and charger instead of the single nimh pack. The Twister
CP V2 version also has the carbon fibre blades (honestly I didn't break
them, the chair that got in the way did (WARNING - Don't fly in front of
your plasma or LCD television or around your pets or children)).
Despite being a poor plastic attempt at the Bruiser I think I will still get
the new Tamiya Ford F350 High-Lift. It will never be a Bruiser or
Mountaineer but you cant expect quality like that in this day and age. I
just hope it doesn't require a 4 channel radio like the Bruiser did. That
was the biggest downfall of the Bruiser.
Cheers
