Circuits & Tracks.....

Badass - 28 Aug 2006 21:55 GMT Do you guys ever design your own tracks or circuits to race your friends? Any advice on what type of materials to use? I have access to around 0.25 sqare miles of nothing but concrete, from the hours of 6pm to whenever I want to go home :)
I had the following ideas:
1: Lots of cones. 2: Lots of car tires (except I have limited access to transport - so I would struggle with these) 3: A few hundred metres of industrial strength hose / strong rubber hose
I think option 3 is the best bet, I can get hose which can be rolled onto a storage wheel, and I have seen some "indistrial strength" for around £15 per 50m.
What do you guys use and are there any cool RC tracks near Edinburgh, Scotland that some of you may know of?

Get over to www.maxbashing.com and get registered there - helpful bunch, I'm sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction :-)
Presume you're talking about a carpark or some such here? What is it you're running?

Badass - 28 Aug 2006 22:25 GMT No idea, it was cheap...
Hold on, off to get link...
OK, I got this and cracked the fuel tank prior to use, so is currently unused: http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/p328803/Thunder-Tiger-TT6701SC-1/10-DT10-Stadium -Truck-RTR.html?image_id=98432
And due to the fuel tank being out of stock, I bought this to see me over the weekend: http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/p94348/Tamiya-43514-1/10-XBG-Nitro-Thunder-(NDF0 1).html?image_id=56491
This is bloody fun!!! :) Now, just so you know - I havent a clue how good or bad these things are, all I know is they are much more fun than any of the previous cars I had (Think 1:6 scale electric from Asda, £99) :)...
Here is a video of my first shot - taken on a crappy mobile which no longer exists, enjoy :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5XGP0vu44s

Doc - 29 Aug 2006 00:25 GMT > No idea, it was cheap... > [quoted text clipped - 18 lines] > > Gary. Both are excellent beginner nitros and both are on the bottom of the price ladders. You'll want big block power in t-minus 6 months or less. As for your track idea, cones would be best. The hose would be cool but without anyway to keep it in place on concrete it'll be a labyrinth in no time as folks smack into it and such. We use corrugated plastic pipe and metal spikes to hold em' in place on dirt tracks.

HAHAHA, glad you didnt destroy the camera/phone. Its truely amazing how the camera always ends up being a target in all the videos I have seen and made.
What ever you do dont use tyres, they are not very forgiving specially at 40 mph. As Doc said use cones. They are also very forgiving and great for learning your distances when the vehicle gets a bit further away from you. Also try to find something to stand on, get yourself off the ground. Being above your car is also a good way to judge distance.
You might want to either buy or make some jumps, nothing to serious since your only just starting out, just something that you can learn to control the vehicle in the air with. Teach yourself to land nose down or up with throttle control. A soft landing is also good so using a jump on grass will be a little better than the road.
Cheers

Man im already thinking about the next one, 7 days in and 2 cars - this could get addictive!!!
How are these?: http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/p323296/Schumacher-1/8-Havoc-Stunt-Truck--Black- RTR.html?image_id=97650
The guy in the shop reckons they are great.....although he would I suppose!

I've read nothing but good things about them, but have zero personal or anecdotal experience with them. If there was a decent distributor over here in the US I would have grabbed one by now just to satisfy my curiosity. Look into the HPI Savage, Traxxas Revo and Team Associated MGT if you're in the mood for a monster.

Badass - 30 Aug 2006 13:45 GMT According to a source, designed by Team Associated and rebadged as a Thunder Tiger?
Gary.

I got it confused with the TT MTA4

The Thunder Tiger MTA 4 looks like a remake of the TA MGT with a different motor. I think Schumacher also did the same chassis's in one of their MT as well.

I always thought they were completely independent.
I think TTR might be getting their paws into Duratrax as well, as all their new stuff <read: crap> is TTR powered. Great mills, lousy r/c's!

Great mills, lousy r/c's! > > Doc We have enjoyed our electric DuraTrax Evaders (Losi clones)...I have been pondering about getting the Nitro version of it..as I kind of want another (non Traxxas) 2WD. Several parts are the same from the electric version as well The nitro Evader is an OS .18 mill. Never had trouble out of the Evaders except of course the cheapy factory steering servo stripping out. They aren't Savage tough by no means, but still pretty tough for what they are. Only have had to replace a front bumper and a-arm due to a head on crash with a cement well cover. The only complaint I have with them (other than the factory servo) is that the DuraTrax brand wheels are fairly brittle plastic and chip/crack easy at the edges. A simple ProLine/RPM rim swap is a good fix.

I think it was GV that was a clone of the Schumacher MT's. I just recall seeing a heap of them earlier this year on eBay.

The only thing Schumacher share with TA and TTR is the engines - all Schumi stuff uses Thunder Tiger badged engines. Schumacher have always had durability issues (not including the engines which are solid as it gets), but apparantly the Havoc is supposed to be a bit of a turn around...

Or did Hot bodies get created cause all the designs that didn't get through HPI some of their employees wanted to create anyway??
Cheers Dre

I dunno really, Hot Bodies is like the cheap brand of HPi isn't it? I don't really rate any Hot Bodies stuff as a rule - the engines seem to be especially weak.

Plus who else makes a TVP twin motor electric truck?? the only competition to it is the E-maxx...
But your right, the first thing I noticed was the plastic isn't as nice as the Savage. Time will tell if its as strong as the Maxx...
Cheers Dre

I dont know why i keep getting the two mixed up.
I really want a havoc......others say it should be a toss up between a Havoc and a Savage X, but the reviews I have read seem to favour the Havoc ever so slightly....
What do you guys reckon? Key factors are FUN, simplicity, FUN, speed, MORE FUN and durability.
Gary.
M78Ultra - 31 Aug 2006 15:49 GMT If you can find one, I would get the Savage LE instead of the X.
