They're quite fast, and wheelie a lot.  I've heard they're reasonably tough
as well, www.rckingdom.co.uk did a full review you can read on the site
(possibly in the forum), and the forum has quite a lot of info about them.
Thunder Tiger engines generally last very well and are easy to tune even if
they're not the most powerful out there.  Is there anything in particular
you're looking for in a truck?  Also consider (I know more money, but maybe
worth it in the long run) HPi Savage and Traxxas Revo.  Revo makes a very
good starter truck as it is very easy to get going.  Savage is what a few of
us round here run, they're VERY tough and a good starter truck for that
reason - also not hard to get going at all.  3.5 is cheap and comes with
some nice hopups these days.  The .21 engine is not all that power wise, but
it's by no means a bad engine - VERY easy to tune and will go forever even
with the most hamfisted newb :-)  This is where, IMHO, the Savage steals a
BIG lead on the Revo, as those small block 2.5R engines in the Revo can be a
COMPLETE PITA to tune and maintain.

HTH!

These are stupid, stupid, very stupid questions......but......I always
thought big bad monster trucks could take ANY amount of abuse...

So, ill be vague, the strongest & most durable model (what is it?), how
would it cope in the following situ's? :

1:  Stone Walled at 30MPH
2:  Stone Walled at 50MPH
3:  Stone Walled at 70MPH
4:  Driven off a 10ft vertical drop
5:  Driven off a 15ft vertical drop
6:  Driven off a 30ft vertical drop
7:  Horizontally Rolled over at 15 - 20 MPH

Im guessing if anything can survive with the above, it can survive a
complete nooooob controlling it!

Hmmm, straight impact, with a Savage, bumper would hit first you'd probably
dislodge something, that would be a hell of a shock for it, wouldn't do it
any good at all - anything really - hitting things flat out is generally BAD
:-)

> 2:  Stone Walled at 50MPH

Realistically, none will see 50mph as standard no matter what the
manufacturers say - but I'd imagine a NICE repair bill.  Savage would be
cheapest- probably TVPs, gearbox and bulk head - probably can be sorted for
£20 if you're lucky - same for the 30mph smash.

> 3:  Stone Walled at 70MPH

I'd expect serious destruction, but none will go that fast :-)

> 4:  Driven off a 10ft vertical drop

Most would take that no sweat assuming a decent landing - landing on one
corner would damage most - reckon Sav would take it.

> 5:  Driven off a 15ft vertical drop

Landing on the wheels, again, fine :-)

> 6:  Driven off a 30ft vertical drop

That's quite high... probably pop some shocks.

> 7:  Horizontally Rolled over at 15 - 20 MPH

No harm I'd imagine :-)

I assumed that was a given :-)  Frontflips too...

Gary,

Drop me a line at gmc(underscore)man(at)adelphia(dot)net and I'll send you
back some pics of what happened to my Savage when I hit a tree dead-on at
full tilt (just under 40mph).

Not bad actually.

TVP's on E-Bay = $10
Roll bar on E-Bay = $5
Steering posts = $8.99
Tranny Case halves = $9.99
Bag o' screwz = $2.99

Total = $36.97

That's like £20 :)  And to be fair, you could probably have smacked the TVPs
and Rollbar straight with a hammer hehe ;)

I did try to straighten then with my 5lb sledge.  One came straight and
became a spare, the one on the "bad side" <side that separated from the
tranny> was beyond repair.
