Obviously, I would love to get sufficiently skilled to not have to worry
about repair costs etc, but just had the bill for the following:

1 x pull start replaced & fitted on Tamiya Thunder Nitro buggy
1 x pull start replaced & fitted on Thunder Tiger MTA4
Both cars tuned....

£57.00 GBP total including all taxes.... probably $120 ish?

Ouch!
I think I would try and hone in on my allen hex wrench and tuning skills a
bit!
Should have run you no more than roughly $45-$50 for both pullstarts.
I guess if you don't know what your doing, it's better to be safe than
sorry......

The only way you'll learn is by trying!  ASK here first before you start
popping screws off though!  I can't even think how much $$$ I would have
spent if I paid my LHS to fix my stuff for me.

Hmmm, bit pricey, pull starts are usually £15ish a piece, maybe up to £20 at
LHS prices.  Depends how long they spent tuning them I suppose - also you
didn't need new pullstarts, just cords, and the MTA pullstart is crap anyway
and you should just use the drill start - take the string out completely.
You'd like to think they'd have told you all this though.
