Monster GT in kit form?

I've been a loyal AE customer since 1993 and I've built all of my cars.
I really want a monster GT but the mere thought of buying an RTR has me
solidly against putting down the cash.

Does anyone know why AE has not released the monster GT as a kit yet? I
can't get past the thought of someone going into a hobby shop and
saying "Wow, that one looks cool!" with zero RC experience under their
belt starting out with a nitro model. It seems to be the perfect recipe
for a disaster. And to add insult to that, they ship these things with
some weird radio that I've never heard of. I'd rather have a kit and
put a real engine and radio system of my own selection into the model.

So what gives? Anyone know if they are going to release this thing as a
kit anytime soon?

No offense, but I have JUST had the most terrific four hours of my life -
with a Monster GT (MTA4)...I am also a complete noob with little, in fact,
NO experience of Nitro cars.  I would hate not to be sold a truck due to
this.

Also, you do know what your doing, so why is it an issue for you?  Just buy
it RTR and tune it to your own requirements?

I thought the engine was supposed to be pretty good?.  Mines is a Thunder
Tiger pro .28 apparently.  Don't know if the Thunder Tiger engines are good
but it goes nice and fast :)

I guess my take on it is building the thing from a pile of parts is
easily half the fun of the ownership experience. And when it comes time
to rebuild the shocks or fix something that broke it is much easier to
faciliate repairs if you built the model originally; then you
understand how it is supposed to go together.

Yup, that would basically be the death of the industry - plus newbies
generally need more spares ;-)

The TTR .28 is perfectly fine, makes good power and will actually last
forever.  If you want a truck that's to your own spec, just buy a knackered
one off of eBay, junk the stock radio and engine and bang some better ones
in, whilst stripping it down to a heap of parts to check for any wear and to
fit some mods :)

I don't have an answer to your question, but I bought my MGT when I
was a complete noob, and it seems to be the most noob-friendly thing
out there. The engine was completely simple to break in, and what
little tuning is needed it super easy. The radio isn't bad IMHO
either, with a few adjustments over a typical stock radio's simple two
trim knobs.

I know that if I had to search through a bunch of radio system and
engine options, , ,, THEN build the truck itself just to get STARTED
in this, , ,I'd surely be doing something else as a hobby. The
DISASTER you speak of, as I see it, , is at worst a $65.00 piston and
sleeve set from blowing the break-in.

Just my $.02
