Just grabbed a Sportwerks .26 off the bay' for $91.01 delivered.  They
retail for $129.99.  Looks like my motor search is over!  Now all three of
my vehix will be powered by the same mill!  You really can't go wrong.  Gobs
of power throughout the powerband and they rev to the bloody moon.

Now for some Alu clutch shoes and a nice high-speed tuned
pipe...............

Multiple independent dyno's spec the Sportwerks .26 to 42,750 RPM; it quite
literally screams!  Here's some figures from XRC:

HPI Nitro Star F4.1 0.94 @ 20,250 rpm 48.60 oz-in @ 18,000 rpm 33,500 rpm
HPI Nitro Star K4.6 1.32 @ 22,250 rpm 59.52 oz-in @ 19,750 rpm 35,000 rpm
SH 0.28 1.22 @ 20,500 rpm 61.40 oz-in @ 14,750 rpm 38,450 rpm
Sportwerks 0.26 1.30 @ 26,750 rpm 53.76 oz-in @ 19,000 rpm 42,750 rpm
Axial Racing .28 Spec I S 1.43 @ 22,800 rpm 75.61 oz-in @ 18,000 rpm 35,000
rpm
Associated MGT 4.6cc 1.10 @ 19,500 rpm 57.60 oz-in @ 17,750 rpm 34,250 rpm

I'm assuming the table has columns titled:

Engine name, HP @ RPM, torque @ RPM, max RPM

Is that about right??

That means the K46 isn't too bad at all, very close to the sportwerks 0.26.

What it also means is HPI are full of sh.t re the 39,000 rpm limit and it
now all makes perfect sense, its a low revver, no wonder I cant get it to
perform at full noise like the Picco in my Inferno.  Makes the K46 a torque
monster considering it puts out max torque under 20,000 revs!!  I now have a
new appreciation for my poor engine, I've been kaning the bejeesus out of
it, LOL :)

Right, now that I've fixed the clutch, I'm gonna go re-tune it now, except
this time I'm *not* going to listen to my ears!

Btw, when I was in the LBS getting some wet noodle I saw under the glass
counter an OS .30VG pull start!  Sexy engine!  I told my mate behind the
counter, lucky for me that thing has a pull start otherwise I prolly would
have bought it!!!  Speaking of, how hard is it to mount a roto start (or
similar) to one of these monsters??  I hate pullstarts...

There is a version of them that comes with the Roto, so one assumes the Roto
backplate is easily availble :-)

Re: those power figures, Hmmmm, the Axial .28 Spec 1 is *exactly* the same
engine as the K4.6 - so it seems odd that the power difference would be that
great.

The version made for the Savage..............the S-25 roto backplate will
actually bolt right on.  The K4.6 roto will not.

They're not *exactly* the same.  The Axial has quite a difference in the
transfer ports in the block; piston and sleeve are identical, transfer ports
are not.
