I let the E-Zilla off its chain and it went nuts!!

Hi all, well I was determined to finally have a steer of this new E-Zilla on
the w/e.  Pity it was raining Saturday, good thing was it was on and off
light rain so there was a chance!

I gathered all my gear and headed out to my shed (not at home) as I figured
I could do some work in the shed and if it stopped raining I could quickly
take an RC for a spin in the dirt/gravel outside the door (big dirt area).

Got there and started charging batteries.  I am so glad the Zilla came with
a twin battery charger cause charging 4x 3000mah and 4x 3300mah batteries
takes AGES!

Rain stops so first truck off for a run is the E-Maxx.  I wanted to get a
feel for it so I had a gauge to judge the Zilla.  Now the only thing I have
done to my Zilla is so far is this:  Rebuilt shocks (had air in em from
factory), put my standard issue steering servo in (KO PS-2174fet), lubed the
diffs and general tidy up.

Now I left the E-maxx in 2nd gear as that was the most fair comaprison for
speed etc.  The maxx gets maybe 2 minutes run before I decide to let the
Zilla rip, and boy did it rip!

First off I noticed how quite it is (means the motors in the Maxx need, erm,
prolly replacing :), second how well it handles!  The thing runs RINGS
around the maxx.  In comparison, the Maxx is a battleship, the Zilla a jet
fighter!  I was kaning it around, drifting it everywhere (remember it
handles handles HANDLES!) using the throttle to steer, the thing was going
ballistic.  It felt like driving a small MT style truck, until I slid it a
bit close to the shed door and hit it, BOOOOOOOM!!!  (big metal shed door,
so lots of noise :)  Thats about the time I remembered that this still is a
big heavy truck, you just dont feel it when you drive it.

The maxx didn't get another drive that day.  I put another 6 batteries (3
runs) through the Zilla before I got bored with the gravel patch, next spot
I take it to is the rock for some crawling.

All in all, AWESOME bit of kit, I am genuinly surprised with it as I
*thought* the Maxx would beat it, not a chance in hell.  The only thing the
Maxx is better than it is going slow, the Maxx can drive slower which is
good for rock crawling...

I am now very VERY happy with it!

Cheers Dre

PS, anyone want to buy an E-Maxx??  :)

I should probably add I also changed all the crappy bullet and tamiya plugs
to Deans ultra's and I'm running 3300mah packs...

LOL, and I bet my *electric* Zilla puts out more torque than "a wee lil'
smallblock" :P

When it comes to displacement and pure speed - I don't think I have anything
to prove anymore with my trucks ;-)

LOL and if you ever get bored with them you can use the revo as a mobile
obstacle for the savage to climb over :)

I know I'm mean!

It was quite good today actually.  But I've also had the SH 3 port and the
K4.6.

WOW, that's a impressive write up.  I would have never expected the Zilla to
out perform the Maxx that easy.  What's the acceleration and brakes like
with the HB ESC?  Could it handle more cells or a motor change??  Can you
change the settings on the HB ESC to lockout reverse?

So what's next??? BL-Zilla???

I just have to wonder when Traxxas is going to make a E-Revo since the
introduction of the E-Savage.  Mind you, if a E-Revo was remotely close the
same price as a Revo I wouldn't be buying one.

There needs to be more EP MT's on the market.  The Emaxx has been around for
to long with no changes made and the E-Zilla that comes as a true RTR (no
batteries or charger needed) has to kill the Emaxx for sales, more so given
the price difference.

Cheers

That makes 2 of us, and my Maxx isn't stock by any means, I was *very*
surprised.  You certainly dont feel its weight.  I didn't get a chance to do
a drag race, but I'd be happy to say that the Zilla is quicker off the line.
Its certainly a fair bit faster top speed.  Brakes are AWESOME as you can
leave them on as long as you like without engagine reverse, to engage
reverse you have to dab the brakes twice, the second time reverse comes on.
It takes a little getting used to the fact that you can leave the brakes on
forever and getting reverse to engage but I really really like this setup.

The manual doesn't say anything about the ESC and I was a bit worried when I
changed the receiver to an XXL (so I can use a proper digital radio) but I
didn't have to touch anything, it set itself perfect.  Because I dont have
any info on the speedy I cant comment on weather you can lock the reverse
out.  What I can tell you is an E-maxx speedy fits straight in with no mods
so if you can do it to one of those you can allways put an E-maxx speedy in
there.

Also cant comment on a motor change however I'm not touching mine expect to
change batteries :)  I absolutely love mine now to the point where I cant be
bothered with the maxx.

Oh forgot to mention, next couple of days I find out if the center MIP axles
from an e-maxx fit (visially they do).  I know I can make the MIP axles from
an original non-wide E-maxx will fit, allthough I need to tune up a couple
of bushes in the lathe to slip over the standard MIPs and they'll fit.
Metal axles all round!!

Also all 4 of my front shocks leak at the o-ring (shitty, I knew they shocks
were crap as soon as I saw them) so I'm on the lookout for some nice metal
145mm long shocks.  Savage ones are 165mm long so too long.  Anyone have any
ideas?

If I can get the axles fitted and some metal shocks I'm sorted and its
perfect!

I really dont know why HB dont just chuck 8 AA's in with everything else,
then you wouldn't need to buy a thing.  Originally I didn't even want all
that extra crap but now I'm so glad I've got it.  The charger is DAMN handy
(given that it can charger 2 batteries at the same time @ 4amps) and the two
2000mah packs it came with are now my Savage rotostart batteries :)
