Is there any type of alternator in a T-maxx or any other rc truck ? I would have thought only a big electrical load would mechanically load up the motor? (damn confusing load talk!) Would RC electrics pull that much current?? I was under the impression that 2 servos + receiver only pull around 2amps max (roughly) at full load? That should be doable for a 540 sized motor I would have thought? What are you trying to power? Try making up a E-maxx style motor mounting bracket and chuck a motor in there running off the spur gear. The critical part is getting the gearing right to reduce the load and make sure you use a motor with weak magnets and 0 degree timing like a stock Johnson or Mabuchi 540 or even a 380 motor as your generator motor. If money permits you could even use a brushless motor but you'll need to make a circuit to change from ac to dc for your output voltage. You may need to put a voltage regulator on the output of the motor as its highly possible with the high RPM nitro motor in the Tmaxx you will be running way to much RPM for the electric motor but again the correct gearing will help with this. A capacitor or two on the output stage should also smooth out the voltage output as well. As GTD said you will increase you load on your T-maxx motor but if geared correctly I doubt it would be a significant load increase. Then I had a kack about what happens when you hit the brakes :) All of a sudden your generator stops and your power stops, LOL, no more electricity to open the throttle to get more power, hehehehe. You'd have to drive it off the flywheel. By belt?? I'd be inclined to say that a nitro engine would be able to cope with a load like that (electric motor). But OTOH, is an electric motor plus all associated bracketry and belts etc actually *lighter* than a battery pack? I'd so no, so puts a bit of a downer on the idea. There is almost no way he will get enough amperage from a single motor to do that anyway. In the articles that I have read about doing this they are lucky to get 300 mili-amps (0.3 amps) from a similar size motor. If he just wanted to power lights or use it to put charge back into the RX pack it would be ok though. You could do the same with your Emaxx or Zilla by disconnecting one motor and wiring it back into the battery circuit. Cheers BTW Dre - what else have you got for sale? Not silly at all. We use 5 mm ultra bright LED's (18,000 mcd) for headlights on most of our trucks in the summer time for playing at night. They are a perfect size for fitting in between the top and bottom bar of the front and rear bumper of the T-maxx and bright enough to blind you if you look straight at them. We could have used light globes but they are just not as durable as LED's and they require a lot more power for the same light the LED's produce. The other nice thing about LED's is that they are easy to seal so we don't have to worry about moisture. Using a configuration of 4 forward facing clear/white LED's and 2 red LED's on the rear they will run for about 10-12 hours continuos off a 9 volt battery. The circuit for them is pretty easy, just a LED, resistor, 9 volt battery plug and wire, we use computer coloured ribbon cable for our wires. We just solder all connections and heat shrink all exposed wiring. You could also wire them into your RX battery pack or put a Y-harness in your truck and power it off the servo lead for your reverse servo. Well there you go, I had no idea how much you could get out of a 540... Saves me the trouble of finding out :) For sale?? Erm, I dont have anything for sale :) The only thing I've been thinking of selling is the E-maxx, but I've boxed it up and put it into storage... OTOH, I wouldn't mind finding a new home for my Inferno MP6 (never gets used), complete, ready to go, heaps of spares... Thats all I have new in bag (I got a heap of stuff in one auction and I only wanted one of the items, so rest can go). I have some left over T-maxx stuff, chassis, gearbox, engine etc. Thats all left over from when I converted it to an E-maxx so its used.
