I have just bought a secondhand Nitro buggy and have just a quick
question for now, im having trouble starting the engine and was just
wondering if it is the glo starter. How long do these last before they
need to be re-charged (roughly)
If it isnt the glo starter, could it be that i have flooded the engine.
Sorry to be vague, if you need more details please ask.
Thanks in advance

Bonehead,

Pull the glow plug and light it with the ignitor OUTSIDE of the engine and
see what color the element lights up.  It should glow a bright
orange/yellow.  If it is a dullish red either the plug is shot or the
ignitor battery is shot.

I can't give you an estimate on how long the ignitor battery will last
because I don't know:

1) Battery size
2) Battery capacity in MaH

FWIW, my "D" sized glo ignitor with a 4000 MaH NiMh installed lasts for 4-5
months before it needs a charge.  If you have a "AA" sized ignitor with a
600MaH NiCd it'll need charged every few runs.

If you are new to nitro eliminate the possible sources of failure.  Replace
the glow plug, fully charge the battery and then try to start it.  If it
won't start, then it could be flooding.

HTH,

Doc

Thanks for the advice; you guessed right, i am very new to nitro so
this sort of info is much appreciated.
Any useful websites anyone has for novices like me would be great also.
Thanks again Doc

My Sub C 1700 mah glo stater lasts for several months although I charge it
more often because its the only one I have and if it goes flat I'm buggered.

If its flooded, while you have the glo plug out turn the buggy upside down
and crank the motor over a few times and that should clear the cylinder and
crank case of any excess fuel

To answer your other question there is literally 100's of websites with
suitable information about the starting and tuning of Nitro motors.  Just do
a search for "Nitro Engine Tuning" or "Nitro Engine Starting" in google and
you should find what your looking for.
