I'm buying my first RC this week. I have narrowed it down to A E-Maxx or
an E-Savage.

Anyone have any tips that can sway me to one or the other ?

Thanks

e-maxx...$329.99 look at what it "requires"

e-savage..$339.00 look at what it "requires"

I would opt for the Savage..aka(Hotbodies E-zilla)
A charger and two 3300 batteries would run at bare, bare minimum of approx.
$75+

The Savage is cheaper once you've bought all the stuff.  Also, one guy here
has both and he rates the Savage over the E-Maxx.  And the Savage is HPi not
Traxxas - so it'll be stronger (I own both brands, a Revo and a Savage so
I'm not a fanboy heh - just how it is).

In summary.  The Savage :-)

my zilla now and emaxx is very top heavy.  Driving in the dry on tarmac
means roll over time.  also jumps means a forward roll, but luckily the very
durable beetle shell has such a nice rounded top that it bounces upright
again.  Oh yeah two sets of 4300 has doubled the speed of the thing and
increased the run time.  I can outrun my touring car now.  In fact i could
tow a touring car faster than my tourer could run.  That things got torque
:)

Hell yeah, those kind of trucks like the best batteries you can throw at
them, they just lap it up.  I hope you have changed out those crappy
bullet/tamiya plugs?  Specially if your running big arse batteries...

Funny you mention towing a sedan, I've *pushed* a flat e-maxx with my zilla,
erm, kinda a bit quick.  I started out easy just so we didn't have to walk
over to get it, but then went stuff it and floored it, they stuck together
for a little while until my mate steered, then it was all over, trucks went
flying everywhere, LOL!  Funniest thing I had seen in a while!

Had trouble with one of my deans connectors.  charger said 'no battery
connected' tried it on a mates pulsar same thing.  Tried all sorts of tests
asked all sorts of people.  In the end converted car to corallis.
Everything fine.

As for the connectors passing all the way through the tubes was advised to
pass the wire over the top of the corrali not thread it inside them.  That
works extremely well.

My only other bug bear with the buggy is that it doesn't drain the batts
evenly.

What is a "zilla". I seen many people say it in reply to my post.

what I gather.

Hehehe, its my short hand way of writing E-Zilla.  Hot bodies make them,
exactly the same as a HPI E-Savage.

Nice, good quality connectors are a must with these trucks.

I personally run matched cell's in all the packs I use in my Zilla/Maxx.  I
then match the packs together (I've numbered them) so when either of my
trucks dump, they dump so quick sometimes the trucks dont have enough power
to get themselves back to me under their own power!

I have noticed actually that the Zilla battery cages (plastic) get quite
soft and flexible after a run becuase the batteries get quite hot, hope they
last ok, hehehe

jesus matched 4300?  a pair of standard stick packs cost £60.  I could only
get them loose if got matched.  it would also cost me £120 for two x6.

Nope, I run 2 pairs of matched 3300mah packs in the Zilla (sticks) and 2
pairs of matched 3000mah packs in the Maxx (ladders).  Yes they were
expensive, but the difference between them and normal packs is incredible!

I figured off the shelf 4300s would be better than or just as good as lower
capacity matched.

Dunno, my biggest capacity packs are matched 3300's.  When I got my packs,
there were no 4000+ packs so I got the biggest I could.

OTOH, you were mentioning that they dont drain evenly.  Thats probably the
biggest problem with non matched cells and non-matched packs...

I get an average of 25 minutes runtime, and that is flogging the trucks, not
taking it easy at all.  If I take it easy (rock crawling for example) I can
be there for close to an hour on one pair of packs.

How much runtime do you get out of your packs out of interest?

Did I hear someone talking bout me?  :)

Yeah I rate the Zilla over the Maxx by lots and lots!

OTOH, the maxx is a more established truck as far as aftermarket parts and
stuff.  The Zilla is still a baby.

HPI, when are you going to make metal shocks and axles for it?????  I'm
waiting!

Hey Matt... Listen, I know this can be all kind of confusing for ya.
Definitely go with the Stampede, it's good for new comers. But, I don't
suggest going with tower hobbies - you can get a full package deal
(includes the car, batteries, battery pack + charger) stampede for
cheaper. Read this review of online hobby shops - they do a comparison
on price and you'll see that tower hobbies is more expensive

I'm Confused or dyslexic?

I thought he asked about the E-MAXX or E-SAVAGE not the STAMPEDE.

Hmm that online shop doesn't even list the New 2006 model Stampede and only
lists the older version.

Sorry I gotta laugh, Really LOUD, but that price from your friends at
Hobbytron is more expensive than a similar package deal from Tower Hobbies.
I say similar because they are giving you a old outdated version of the
Stampede, with a mechanical speed controller and same batteries and a
similar charger for $1 more than Tower Hobbies after the huge 3% savings.

What you get from Tower Hobbies is a 2006 model Traxxas Stampede with the
new XL5 ESC, new body and new upgraded wheels and tyres, new motor, the same
batteries as above and a similar charger.  Yes the Tower Hobbies package
also comes with a $15 coupon not 3%.

So you were saying???

BTW - Its good to see Hobbytron have their spammers working over time for
Christmas.

Cheers

Hey, I'm not fighting here - but hobbytron does actually have the e
savage (im sorry, i didnt reference it properly in the last post)

I would like you to calculate what 3% is off a $400 purchase - $12,
yikes!! 3 dollars difference. Tower hobbies gives you $15 off but
that's not with their package deal - Check it for yourself:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXPCH5&P=ML

339.99 - NOT a package deal, just the truck - so you save $15 for just
the truck - where you can save 3% with a PACKAGE deal from hobbytron.
You can say spammer all you want, but in the end, it doesn't really
bother me where you shop from. Anyway, Matt, whether you choose
hobbytron or tower hobbies, get your e-savage and have a merry
christmas alrighty?

Cheers
