I am in the process of breaking-in my XTM XT2, all is going well so
far, but one thing doesnt feel right. I am doing as the manual says,
after about 3 mintues stop engine and lean the high end needle, let
engine cool for 10 mins and repeat for about 45 mins. Giving short
quick bursts on the throttle every now and then.
The bit that doesnt feel right, is when the car first starts, it idles
ok, then it sounds like its rev-ing up more and more. I give it a
couple of short throttle bursts and sometimes drive it (not race) and
it sounds like the power drops to the point that it nearly stalls, so i
leave it still for a few seconds until the revs build up again - does
this sound right to everyone else ? and do i just carry on leaning the
high end needle until ive gone through about 8 tanks to finish off the
breaking in ?

I think you confused something there, the manual says to keep leaning the
engine about 1/8 turn on each 2 - 3 minute session BUT also keep a steady
stream of white smoke coming from the exhaust.  If there is not excessive
white smoke coming from the exhaust richen it slightly and continue the
process.

In regards to the idle problem, I wouldn't worry about it until you've
broken the motor in.

Once finished running the motor in, then set the HSN according to the manual
in the Fine Tuning section followed by the LSN.  How you adjust the HSN will
effect the way the LSN is adjusted, hence the reason you are getting a
irregular idle at the break-in stage.  So make sure you do the HSN needle
first.

Hi
Ive got a fair amount of white smoke coming from the exhauset, so just
carry on the way i am and fine tune it like you said later ?

Sounds like you're ok.  My wager would be that HSN is still way rich and LSN
is a tad lean, blipping the throttle floods the engine, bogs it down and
lowers the revs, until the lean LSN setting allows it to burn off the excess
fuel and return to a normal idle.
