The RC car in question is a Tyco RC Hot Rocker (an older toy model)
that has been recently purchased, and it has been going fine for a day;
however, today the front wheels stopped turning. If you hold the car in
the air and issue the command to turn the wheels left or right on the
RC, you can feel the attempt of movement on the front wheels, but they
do not actually turn. We tried taking the casing off to see if
something was obstructing them, but that didn't result in anything.

We wondered if this might be a common issue and easy to fix, so thanks
in advance for any input or suggestions.

Most of the people in this group run the type of RC Car that is designed
to be repairable.  They cost a bit more, but the performance is
exponentially better. Your car should be returned if possible for an
exchange.  Even taking it apart may void the warranty.  If you can't
return it, then check for broken gears, linkages, and rocks in the
mechanism.  Even grit in the steering servo can cause your symptoms.
