I will be getting either an EvaderST or BX for my daughters (4&6) for
some fun parking lot driving with some small plywood ramps for
excitement. I was wondering what you guys think would be better, the
ST or BX. They like the buggy, but I was looking for some other
opinions. I even considered the Traxxas Bandit, but the Duratrax
warranty, full bearings, cvds, ESC sold me on the Evaders. Adding the
bearings and esc would negate the cheaper Bandit, actually making it
more expensive. Also, do the buggies handle ok on the pavement,
turning wise? I thought I read somewhere that they don't turn well on
pavement. Too much push or something.

Most trucks (stadium, monster, whatever) will have a higher CG and will
therefore, IMO, be easier to roll over.
I've never seen a buggy roll unless you slide it into something sideways, or
get come down off a jump weird.

I can't believe you grouped stadium trucks with monster trucks at all!
Anyway the proposed use for the vehicle will be 4 and 6 year old bashers.
They're going to want to do small and large jumps. They'll need a little
bit of ground clearance. They don't need a super fast super twitchy
lowrider. It'll get hung on the grass easier, and YES, it will be harder to
land gracefully from a medium to large jump. That's going to make the
little buggies roll over. Plus the suspension has less travel and will
allow the chassis to take more abuse.
Yes the stadium truck has a higher CG. It also has a wider stance. From my
own experience, it's much harder to roll a stadium truck than a 1/10 buggy
in bashing conditions.

Well, I bought my EvaderST yesterday. No problems with rollovers. Nice
little truck. Next weekend I will buy a T3. My girls and I are going
to have some fun parking lot races. I don't think I'll go for the road
tires though, as I want the truck to spinout if cornered too fast. My
girls need to learn throttle control too. The front rims on the Evader
have way too much runout though, they hit the knucke when spun. Mr.
Dremel fixed that. I also don't like the brakes, or lack there of, on
the Evader. Better ESC eventually. Other than that, I like it. Jumps
smoothly, handles ok. Think I'll keep it.

I bought an Evader ST for me and my boys. I too run on asphalt. Just last
night I replaced the worn out factory tires with HPI V Groove truck tires
(http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXM973&P=7). I can't
believe how well the truck handles on asphalt now. Night and day
difference, I HIGHLY recommend these tires to any Evader ST owner who drives
on asphalt. I can't say enough good about them. I already had an extra set
of factory wheels (bright green/yellow) and the HPIs fit perfectly. The
only downside is you lose some of your top end speed because the tires are
actually a little smaller in diameter. I am planning on upping my pinion to
a ~25 instead of a 20.

The Bandit pushed on dirt and street until I threw some appropriate tires on
both ends. Now it grips on both surfaces (different tires for each surface).

I have both an ST and a BX. The BX, being lighter and smaller and
with a 23T pinion (vs 18T for ST) is quite a bit faster. It is also
easier to flip, and easier to damage. My experience with young kids
is that the stock gearing on both is too fast for them until they have
some experience. The BX, being faster, is worse in this regard. The
problem is that it takes kids a while to figure out how to give just a
little gas; they tend to go full forward or full reverse. Smaller
pinion gears help in this regard. My recommendation is to get the ST,
and a 15T pinion to start. Once they can drive, go back to the stock
pinion.
As for turning, you can adjust the suspension on both to get the kind
of handling you want. If you are doing jumps, you need more spring
(tighten the spring adjusters) in the front and the back. If the back
has stiffer springs than the front, more weight will transfer to the
front when you let off the gas and turn. This means the front will dig
in more. The ST has wider tires front and rear, so you get more grip
in general, though the rubber studs on the ST wear off pretty quickly
in the rear.
Another thing to know, the stock motor is pretty good and very
inexpensive. You can get a new one at Tower Hobbies for $17.
