Hi All

I recently bought a new mill for my SavageX, a Lamberto Collari
LC .30 S.
On turning the motor over by hand without plug, there seems to be very
little pinch
at the top of the bore, I expected a lot more, from what I have heard,
and
the few other engines I have had experience with.
Has anyone ever experienced this, or have any kind of explanation???
TIA

Removing the plug or exhaust takes away alot of the resistance pressure.

The exhaust has nothing to do with it. The OP is speaking of pinch,
not compression. Pinch can be felt without the plug in.

It is surprizing that an expensive engine like that would have little
pinch, is it of typical ABC construction (Aluminum Piston, Bronze
sleeve, which has a Chrome inner surface?). I've read about AAC
engines, (Aluminum, Aluminum, Chrome), being a bit different, but I
don't know how that factors in. On all my engines I've felt
significant pinch without the plug in, enough that I didn't feel safe
starting them without warming them beforehand. Not much one can do
execpt either run in or return it. You should do a thourough
inspection to ensure it's not used, else that may make it harder to
return should the vendor notice it and claim that YOU ran it already
and deny a return, , or it may be possible it is already broken in by
the manufacturer. . . .

Tough one, , but it definately shouldf have some noticable pinch.

Hi.
Yes its definately an ABC, removed backplate and rotostart drive,
head and sleeve, all looked brand new, (got it off of EBay as used,
due to tatty box, but engine is supposed to not have run). I could see
the guy had had a plug in it, flywheel on, (no sign of locktite in end
of crank though, so dont think clutch bell has been on), and had it
mounted to engine mounts, but it really does look brand new, there was
still VERY small fleks of chrome sticking up on the very edge of some
of the ports from when it was deposited on the brass sleeve. Also
inside the crankcase looked too dry to have been run.
In essence, it looked brand new, and I think the bloke sold it because
he couldnt get it into his ride, I had a few probs myself.
There is some pinch, its just less than anything else I've seen, in
fact the HPI 4.1 I've took out still has as much if not a little more
pinch than the LC .30 s, and I've put 2 1/2 Gallons through it AND I
got it second hand in the truck, looking at the truck at least 1 1/2
Gallons got put through it by the other fella.
Just in the process of running it in at the mo, will report my
findings.
All the reveiws I've seen say its a strong engine with plenty of guts.
WE SHALL SEE.
Thanks all.
See Ya
