Traxxas Electric Rustler Questions

I'm new to this, so please pardon my ignorance.

What is the best aftermarket motor that will work with the stock XL-5
speed control -- It currently has the stock 550 motor.

I keep seeing optional bearing sets on ebay that are intended to
replace the stock bushings -- Is there a guide available for download
that explains how to replace the bushings with bearings?

The steering is never entirely correct no matter how much I fiddle with
the steering trim -- Are instructions available online for adjusting the
toe and camber?

Are the aluminum chassis and transmission housings I see on ebay worth
the sizable investment? What are the benefits?

I like the look of the Nitro Jato Anaconda tires a great deal -- Is
there a way to put these larger tires and wheels on my Rustler without
having to tear into it too much?

Should I decide to replace the speed control at a later date, is there
a better one available that will work with the stock motor and
controller and still allow forward/reverse and braking?

Thanks.

"Best" is an arguable term. There is a trade-off between power, speed,
and battery life in motors. First you should start by finding out what
the maximum amperage is that the stock esc can handel, and pick an
aftermarket motor that doesn't exceed that.

They are much stronger, , but heavier. If you've not broken stock parts,
don't replace them.

There are tons of options here, most are better than stock. Novak makes
many different escs, find one that does everything you need, and is
rated high enough for your motor, and that fits your price range, , they
can get super spendy.

The XL-5 runs a 12 turn 550 motor in the newer version of the Rustler but
Traxxas recommend know lower that a 15 turn with a 540 size motor.

If you go to the Traxxas website and download the exploded views of the
Rustler it show you the basics of how it goes together. IMO I wouldnt
replace the stock bushings with bearings. The size of the bearing wont last
very long. I did this and ended up putting the bushes back in until my
upgraded parts arrived. If you look on the RPM RC Products or Traxxas page
you will see that the better upgrade is a larger bearing carriers and
bearing.

The camber is non-adjustable but can be upgraded to a adjustable type setup,
see the Traxxas website.  The warn bushings on the wheels might also be the
culprit here.

Never seen it before, dunno.

See the Traxxas website as these are a direct upgrade/fit for the Rustler.

Go Brushless with either Novak 13.5 stock or Castle Creations Mamba Max 4600
systems

welcome to the wonderful world of R/C! The Rustler is a good place to
start. I haven't done much with mine in years, but will be pulling it
out again soon. Look into a good rebuildable stock motor, i have a
trinity midnight stock more in my rustler but i don't think they make it
anymore.

the bushings in the front end could be the problem, could be worn out
making the tire wobble around. I replaced all my bushings with bearings,
it's just a matter of taking the bushings out and pushing the new
bearing in..

there is alot of options you can do to your rustler, i know there are
alot more now than there was when i bought mine. I actually did some
mods to the gear box of mine so i could install a heatsink for the
engine. If you have a local track you could goto, see what everyone is
running in there models and ask questions.. Learn as much as you can.
