OK, this is probably a dumb question... I'm trying to revive an old
car... the radio that's with it has been abused in the 15 or so years
it's been stored, and I want to just get a new one... it's 27MHz with
a channel 2 xtal in it--can I just replace the radio with another one
of the same freq, and plug the crystal into it from the old radio, or
am I going to have to get a new receiver too? Everything seems to work
OK, the receiver is fine, it's just that when the car gets about 50
feet from me, it loses contact with the radio. I really don't want to
have to get into replacing the receiver too, but I'm pretty rusty at
this stuff... is matching the xtal the only real concern? Thanks.

If you look on ebay you should be able to pick up a new AM 27mhz radio and
reciever with crystals for roughly $20, no more than $30...
or
You could try as you suggested to find just a pistol grip and slap in the
crystal.

Good answer, thanks. It's always a good answer when it's what you
wanted to hear... lol

Are you sure it is your radio and not the receiver that has the problem. My
fiend just had a bad receiver allowing only 30 meters distance before signal
got lost. Just to remind this possibility also.

Regards,
Sami
