Hello List,
sorry for the newbie question but I would like to enter in this world
with the right step and I would like your experienced advice.
I want an off-road 4wd, 1/8 scale nitro car that is good enough to
start and upgrade but not too expensive. Any suggestion? Are they all
the same?
I've been in several shops but they tend to favor specific brands and
I think their motivations are just simply of higher margins.
Thank you very much,
Franco.

Oh ... I forgot to say that I tend to favor the buggy form factor.

I guess I found a good candidate: Ansmann Racing Vapor Kit Buggy
What I like is that it comes in kit (I prefer it over RTR) and it is
not that expensive. Any opinion on this vehicle? What engine would you
put on this car? What radio/receiver/servos combination?
Consider that excluding the kit cost I would like to spend no more
than 300 €/$ (It may sound weird doing 1€ = 1$ but strangely enough
things in europe are always more expensive than in the USA).
Thank you for your opinions,
Franco.

I would get the brands that your shop supports. You will need parts
and the internet can be a hassle waiting for delivery, shipping costs
etc. It is also very helpful when i need something repaired to have a
relation with a shop. The workers at my shop frequently make repairs
at NO charge if it was bought there, they also give a discount to
regular customers and their prices are usually the same as the online
stores.

Tower Hobbies has the Duratrax RTR Raze Buggy for $230 with everything
except batteries and fuel.  Looks like it would be a good starter buggy for
low $$$.  Don't forget to use the discount code and save even more.

I bought a Raze ST for myself and one for my son, we are having a lot of fun
with them.

Thank you, I will look into it.
