Hi guys...

I am new to Nitro R/C cars and are after some advice on the purchase of a
new RC buggy.

At the moment I am looking at the HPI Nitro MT as a general fun type drive.
I think it offers a good mix of buggy/monster truck performance. I'm not
that interested in racing yet. If I like nitro RC I may take it up later but
not yet. Is the HPI Nitro a good buggy? What other buggies should I also
consider?

Also, what would be a good engine to match with this car? Could I use a
Traxxas 2.5 with the HPI Nitro? I would always appreciate the extra power
over the 0.15. failing that what other engines would you recommend of 0.15
size for the HPI Nitro?  Are there any brands of engines that I should
avoid?

Thanks.. Michael

Well I hope you realize that the Nitro MT is not a buggy.  It's a 4wd 1/10
stadium truck. 1/10 buggies are mostly 2wd and have really narrow front
tires.  The 1/8 buggies are 4wd and also have narrower tires than the
stadium trucks.  Aside from that . . .

The 2.5 is a rear exhaust engine.  Make sure you have the proper manifold.
A good side exhaust should drop right in, such as an OS CVR-X, or a OS Max
CV-X for the budget.

If you're going to be competing, then get whatever is popular at your track.
It'll make parts easier to find and tips easier to come by.  Good nitro
bashers include the Savage, the T-Maxx, or the Nitro Stampede for those on a
budget.  The Stampede is cheaper, but its only 2wd, which makes it a much
worse performer than a 4wd.  You should also look at the CEN MT2 for a value
vehicle.

Thanks for the advice Justin....

I still have not decided if I prefer a MT over a buggie or not, hence why I
seam to like the HPI  Nitro MT as it is more buggie like than most MT's.

I will be checking out my local track soon and will see what they
run/recommend.

I see that you have suggested a number of MT's other than the HPI Nitro. Is
this because the others you have suggested are better than the Nitro? If so
what is the problem with the Nitro?

Regards,

mike

There's nothing wrong with the Nitro.  It's a fun truck and more nimble than
the ones I suggested.  But the bigger trucks are more durable and can handle
rougher terrain and higher jumps than the low-slung Nitro.  I'm only
suggesting these trucks for bashing.  People DO race them, but they don't
have the performance of dedicated race vehicles on the track.

The Nitro MT is really a betweener vehicle.  It takes the middle road
between racers and bashers.  The dedicated race vehicles are faster, while
the dedicated bashers are more durable.  The MT is, however, much easier to
handle than a 2wd stadium truck, and more forgiving in the turns.
