Question about my new Dynamite charger

I got the Dynamite Twin Peak and two Epic 3000's.

The Dynamite is supposed to be an "idiot proof" design.
I connected the two new battery packs, pushed the start button, and it
started charging.

I checked back in about 15 minutes, and they were still on peak
charge, hadn't gone to trickle yet, and both packs were hot.

They weren't "too hot to touch," but they were hot.
I've read that NiMH were sensitive to heat, so I immediately aborted
the charge cycle.

Did I do the right thing?  How hot is too hot for NiMH?
Should I have let them finish?

How long should it take to peak charge a 3000?

Thanks!

BTW...the pack ran at least 10 minutes before my wheel flew off.
This seemed pretty good for a partial charge.

I have the same charger. The batteries get hot to the touch. Probably in
the 110-125 degree range, which seems normal. I use it for 3000 NIMH,
and Gold Peak 3300's. If the cells are totally discharged, meaning the
servo for steering still works but the RC car won't move, the cells take
about 30-45 minutes to fully charge. I've found that new 6 cell 3000 or
3300 NIMH cell packs take about 5 to 6 charge discharge cycles before
they give the best performance, and that they don't cause false peaks.

We race and have about 12 3000-3300 packs. I'll charge all of them the
night before and when we get to the track I'll peak them right before
each race.

I personally like the Twin Peak for it's idiot proof design. If I'm not
using the packs for longer than a week, I fully charge all the packs let
them cool, then use my 10 bulb discharger on them, let them cool again,
and give them each about 5 minute charge before storing. Hopefully this
will give the cells a good long life.

We are B Main, and Rookie class racers. The 3000- and the 3300's give us
way more run time than a 5 minute race requires.

Does false peaks mean that they can overcharge, or does that mean that
they will undercharge (think they've peaked when they haven't)?

Should I put a small fan on them while they charge, just be safe?

False means they stop charging before they are fully charged.

Many racers I see blow a fan on the packs and the charger as it's
charging to keep the whole kit and kaboodle cooler.
