Hi you all!
I'm 30 and I want a radio controlled monster truck. I love the way those
things handle! I had a Bolink street car when I was 15, but I'm pretty much
new to the hobby. I've read it's best to start off with electric, but I'm a
fast learner and I want that sh.t loud! So can a beginner start off with a
nitro powered monster truck? What would be some RTR's that can handle the
abuse of a newcomer?
Can't wait to get started.

Here's what I'd get in order of price, with the first being the most
expensive:
Team Associated's Monster GT, about 500.00
Traxxas T-Maxx, about 400.00
Traxxas SportMax. about 325.00
All US dollars.

Welcome to the fold.
I too about your age but have been into gas rc cars for a bit longer.
Fortunately for you, almost all the cars available today are getting more and more
newbie-friendly.
Monster bashers have flooded the market. With a healthy measure of patience and a good
support network of Local Hobby Shops (LHS), www.towerhobbies.com, this newsgroup and maybe
the forums on RCuniverse, you should be fine.
May i humbly suggest the granddaddy of all ass-kicking monster bashers, The Traxxas Tmaxx.
She comes pre-assembled, electric start, 1hp motor, radio, reverse, 2speed automatic, DVD
tuning guide, and everybody and their brother has one, so parts should be easy to come by.
You will also need a 7.2v battery and charger for the starter system.
Prolly $450 total depending on the shop.
I always recommend trying out your local shop and giving him your business if he deserves
it. See what they carry and their prices.
For opinions on a specific car, please re-post.
