My sons got the Artin Ranger monster truck for Christmas, one for each.
Big problem is that both trucks have same frequency setup for
controlling them. Went searching, found no Artin website, but did find
out that the trucks operate and are available only on the 27 mhz band.
So, I opened one controller and changed the transmitter crystal to a
different 27 mhz frequency than what was on the original crystal that
was in the controller. I opened the truck and went to change the
crystal in the receiver and found no receiver crystal anywhere. Funny
thing is that the new crystal will still operate the truck in the same
way as the old crystal. How does the radio transmit/receive setup work
with no receive crystal in these things? Has anyone been successful in
figuring out what the problem is and how to make the trucks operate on
different frequencies? Thanks.

It sounds like the transmitter and receiver are using a fairly broad
portion of the 27Mhz band. Hobby-quality RC radios use very tight
frequency bands, so you can operate many Tx/Rx channels. Toy RC radios
often spew signal all over the 27Mhz band.
