T-maxx tuning trouble

I have a T-Maxx 2.5 and I'm having some trouble tuning the engine.  The
engine was broken in per the manual, then leaned out for performance.
The top end is great, but acceleration is hit and miss.  If the truck
has been idleing for a few seconds, acceleration is instant.  However,
if the truck is moving and I hit the throttle, it bogs a little, then
picks up.  I've tried tuning using the 3-second rule in the manual, and
I've also tried making the adjustment screw flush with the carb body,
but no help.  Please post if you have any suggestions.

Sounds to me like the low speed needle is a bit rich (try running it
in 1/16 turn clockwise and testing) or that the glowplug is too cool
or failing.

You can call the boys at 888-TRAXXAS and they'll listen to it run on
the phone for a more accurated diagnosis.

If it accelerates from idle but not from mid range, then I don't believe it
is the LSN. I think the GLO plug suggestion is a good one - definitely try a
couple of warmer plugs, and maybe a variety of different brand plugs as
well. Also I would check for possible leakage in the fuel system, although I
doubt that is the problem.

Is it possible that you've leaned it off a little too much on the HSN?

Lastly, I would try another batch of fuel as well. Depending what fuel you
have now, it might be worth upping the nitro percentage.

But anything like this, I would start by looking at the plug before I do any
tuning.

Agreed.  I had a more complex/long answer in mind but got lazy.
Thanks for the additional info.

Thanks for all the great suggestions.  The truck was just broken in, so
the plug may be part of the cause.  I'll try that, along with richening
up the HSN.  It is running a bit on the hot side, but I've heard this
engine does that.  I'm running Blue Thunder 20%, FWIW.

The 2.5 will run something like 160-170F above ambient.  Rough guide,
not gospel.  THis is a bit cooler thant hte Pro .15.

If it hits 270-280F it will stall out.

That fuel should work fine in the 2.5.

I've had the truck out a few times since this post and tried a few
things, but no luck yet.  I bought a Thunderbolt glow plug and went
through the extremes with both needles, but was not able to solve the
problem still.  I have also learned that it isn't just throttle response
that's a problem.  The truck also does not run right at part throttle.
I now suspect an air leak somewhere, but can't be certain.  I'll
continue to try things and keep folks posted.

I don't recognized Thunderbolt from the tested-by-Traxxas list.  These
plugs are known to work:

Traxxas 3232, 3231, 3230 (when/if you can get them)
Dynamite/McCoy MC8, MC9, MC59
K&B 1L

Have you called 888-TRAXXAS yet?

please let me know if that works. I have an RC10GT truck with an OS CV-15, and
it is doing exactly the same thing that you described

Richen the high side needle.  You are starving the engine of fuel.  It loads
up a little when at idle so excell is good.  But if it hesitates during
excelleration after running above idle its starved.

Even if this is wrong the worst you will do is run a little rich.
