body painting/inside decal question

Has anyone used the liquids that allow you to put a picture on the inside of
you body before you paint it?
If so, does it work with images done off the computer on a bubble jet
printer.

I am trying this method for the first time, and am afraid that the ink will
bleed or come off when the liquid is applied.

Thanks for any help from someone just getting back into the scene after a
long absence.

If the fluid is water based it might run the ink
you could try sealing the printed side lightly with clear Krylon
Krylon even makes a sealer just for ink-jet prints.
Most "True Value" hardware stores carry it

I print many photos with a Canon photo printer. Once the prints are totally
dry (overnight) you can put the print into water and leave it there with NO
running of the ink at all.
Try it on a small piece of plastic that you cut off. It should work just
fine without sealing the print?
Let us know what the results are if you would :)

Thanks much, not sure on the photo printer what kind of paper you are using
there.... i've never had that kind of luck.
I will try to find some clear lexan for a test, as the body i got was
pre-trimmed.  I certainly hope this will work,
i've not seen the logo i'm using in any magazines of the size i would need.
I am using some of The Salvation Army logos,
as I work there.  Thought it would be a cool way to incoporate The Salvation
Army with one of my hobbies. (sorry shameless
plug).  Not only will i let you know how it worked, but i will try to post
some pictures of it.

Thanks again.

Hey, I never tried it before, but if you have no luck, you can also try
Modge Podge.  It is an arts and crafts adhesive that dries completely clear.
You can get it at any crafts store (ie Michaels)It might work.  HTH, good
luck.  Let us know what ends up working best for you.

Thanks again for the help....
not sure that would work for me, the decals i am doing are kind of special.
never seen a "The Salvation Army" shield logo or decal anywhere in the
hobby.

This could take a while anyway, the hobby shop i deal with is currently out
of the stuff to mount pictures
on the inside of your car, and it won't be in till thursday.   couple that
with the fact that i will be out of town
from friday through sunday at Salvation Army confrence, it probably won't be
done for another week or so.

Then there is the whole issue of the the images needing a white background,
and i'm painting most of the car a dark
blue.  once i get the decal on, i plan on using liquid mask to cover the
area, then painting the blue.
Then, peel back all the liquid mask, and finish up with white.  As that is
the other color of the body.  The further
i get into this, the more difficult i realize it is.  I do however think the
body will turn out pretty killer.  (if you like The Salvation
Army that is).

Again, thanks to all for all the help, and if anyone has come across this
quandry, if you could tell me how you handled it
and how it worked, that would be greatly appreciated.  I am getting anxious
to get the body done, as i have had it for a month
now.

Thanks again

I could tell you how I do it but it is not cheap.

I use the CAL-DECAL water slide decal system.  I print the decals out on the
special paper that they sell and when the ink is completely dry I spray it
with their final step decal spray.  (2 Coats)

When it is dry I cut it out and stick it to the inside of my husband's lexan
bodies.  I use their clear decal paper and back paint the design with white
lexan paint when it drys to make the ink pop.  If you use the white paper
you have to cut the decal closer to the edge of the design.  If you
backpaint the design you just have to be careful to color inside he lines.

I print a full sheet 1/2 the size of a letter sheet all at one time.  Since
Steve has one logo he uses on all his cars I make it in several sizes and
try not to waste any paper as it is not cheap.  I used  to buy it at hobby
lobby but they no longer carry it and will have to buy it online now.

Testors sells a simular product that you can even buy at wal-mart but the
spray is in a smaller can and I don't think you get as many pieces of paper
in the kit.
